You're suppose to usee it every night as part of your normal routine - not to stop and put it in when things get interesting..
I don't want a bit of silicone up my mooer every night! Your fanny needs to breathe!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I never got on with the Depo injection. I got terrible acne - and I mean terrible - my face looked like a bowl of porridge ugggh!!
I also noticed a distinct drop in my sex-drive and when i complained about that to the Dr she said "oh weel yes, that is to be expected with Depo". Helloooo? Kind of defeats the object somewhat! What's the point of a contraceptive that kills your sex-drive??
And to cap it off, Depo triggered a form of arthritis in my knees that I'm still suffering from now, 6 years after stopping the injection. I really wish i hadn't bothered now!
In the end, my dear OH had the snip. Gotta love him for that! You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -
I dont like the thought of having a coil fitted - my friend has one and while she says its fab she also said its painful to have fitted and removed
Not for everyone. I had mine inserted with no anesthetic and clamps were involved  Wasn't painful, uncomfortable yes - but not painful and I have a seriously low pain threshold!

Also I think with depo you are only allowed to have it a few times now, and then change to something else , because of the risk of brittle bone disease later in life? I think Ive heard that anyway.0

Probably the ultimate form of contraception when you think of it!0 -
Depo injection caused me to put on around 2 stone in less than a year. I don't eat anything different than I used to and despite going to gym and doing regular excercise/healthy diet - the weight is going no where. it has many plus points - but the dr's do not tell you the cons unforunately.0

I wouldn't have the depo as it has a whole host of side effects and can cause havoc with your fertility. I've got a coil and its great its stopped my periods and I don't have to faff around remembering to take the pill. It is uncomfortable being fitted but its not much worse than a smear. I've got no first hand advice on a cap though I'm afraid.

I was on Depo for about 18 months and had six-week-long periods (heavy & painful from start to finish) and during the week between periods would bleed during sex as well. Doctors kept talking me into carrying on with it as it is supposed to settle down, but eventually I just told them I was not having another shot ever again.
After that it took another year for my cycles to come regular again. Goodness knows what is in the Depo but the number of horror stories I've heard about it are shocking. Never yet heard a woman have a positive experience with it.
I now have a Mirena coil that was put in to help with my heavy periods, in fact I'm on my second now, and woukd swear by it. I found the insertion & removal easy as anything and just had a little mild cramping for about two days after. (And my monthlies are now about a day long, light, painless & only every other month - fantastic!)Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
We used a diaphragm with no problems - you are measured, the pharmacist orders it, and you usually have to go and have a check to make sure you have managed to work it out right!
I've been told that coils are painful to have inserted if you haven't had children - I have a mirena but it was put in under a general anaesthetic as part of some ongoing treatment so don't know whether that is true or not. Two weeks in I would cheerfully have removed the thing myself if it had just been a contraceptive... After 10 weeks it has settled down - I get some cramps, spotting and it looks like so far I'm still getting periods.0
