My daughter comes out of the maternity hospital tomorrow and AFAIK, the plan is that she will sleep in her own roon from day 1.

The advice from the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths is that babies should sleep in the same room as their parents for the first 6 months. It is thought that it is the presence of the parent that is a factor in preventing cot death - so a breathing monitor would not compensate for that.
FSID advice on baby sleeping in the same room as an adult
Before folk start getting uppity, I'm not criticising anybody's choices, but the FSID advice is research based and worth considering."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret.
