Just one word of warning on the breathing monitors - the one that was bought for us when DS was born wasn't compatible with a sprung mattress (foam only). As we'd anticipated him using the mattress for a few years we'd paid out the extra for the sprung one so the monitor had to go back. They may have changed in the last couple of years but I thought I'd raise this in case its a potential issue - hopefully not too late!.

Those of you thinking of using the travel cot as a bed ,just be aware that they are designed for occasional use not all the time.

Something about the base / matress not being particularly supportive to babies back for long term prolonged use

Good point - perhaps I will attempt to move the cot after all.

    Hello there,

They all say on the back of the box what they are compatible with. Maybe the Boots website will have the descriptions on. We used a tommee tippee version of the angel which has a thermometer on the parent unit which we found very helpful as we don't have central heating and so heat each room seperately. We have had a cot death in the family so I used the motion pad for months until my son could roll off it. If you have an active baby that can set it off, but my son was quite still and it really put my mind at rest. I was lucky (but a bit paranoid and we then moved house so it dragged on a bit) but my son was in with us for 7 months and slept through (quietly) from 10 weeks. Depending on the baby, the smell of breastmilk can make them wake more than if they were in another room.

The money was worth it, we are still using the monitor if we have a babysitter in and it is still used as a nightlight.
Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early :D
  • My baby boy was in his own room from 9 weeks. From that first night his colic stopped, he started sleeping through and he became an angel! The transformation was amazing.

Hes six months now and I still check on him all the time! If his room was bigger i would sleep in there, lol!!!
    What the Deuce?
  • oh dear i must be awful mummy! My beautiful daughter now 10 months was in her room from 6 days old (1 night after we returned home from hospital.) She slept in my room the first night and no one slept as we kept waking each other up.

She has slept through the night from 17days old tho!

 My DS slept in one for 3 years!

I had major problems with my eldest who refused to sleep in a wooden cot so decided for a travel cot with the second, he slept for 13/14 hours a night from about 3 months

    Wow!

I’ve heard of test-tube babies but I didn’t know they could be cultivated in a moses basket.

    What fertiliser do you use?
  • I would do almost anything to have my bedroom to myself again, although I have sort of got used to the security of knowing they are ok, The baby monitor idea sound best to me. You can regularly check in on baby if you are worried.
    Loving the dtd thread. x

I am pretty sure mine were the same - I just cant remember. I'm not saying they slept through the night but certainly we slept better for them not being in the same room.

    Heartless mummies arent we?
