Having read the OP's signature, I hope they don't mind me linking to this thread.

The OP must be really confused by now. But I strongly suggest that the OP follows my advice and picks up a good quality 2GB RAM module and replaces the 1GB module in the existing SO-DIMM slot. Examples here or here
Unless, someone actually has worked on one of these machines and can tell you exactly where to find the spare slot, you will likely be on a hiding to nothing.

I agree the OP will be confused - thats why I suggest that the OP takes Crucial's professional advice - to put in 2gb RAM may not work, 2 x 1gb is a better solution.

Hmmmmm....gentle hints don't appear to work with you.

So let us try it this way; Unless you have actually worked on one of these machines and can tell the OP where the spare slot is located, I would advise you to 'hold your horses'.
    Crucial's professional advice..

That brought a smile to my face.

As I've written, hold your horses on this one Rob.

Going further, despite my limited knowledge of these machines, I believe they are based on the Uniwill U40 chassis.

    Their specification thus:

Crucial - That brought a smile to my face.

Horses? Would I take advice from a couple of unknown posters on these forums, or the advice of one of the largest international suppliers? It is for the OP to decide how risk adverse they are. If the OP has any concerns why not call the free phone # and get the advice of people whose job it is to know - 0800 013 0330 ?

I would suggest that to advise an OP to do something that the major RAM suppliers would not recommend, is not very wise. In making your suggestion, which may prove to be right, or wrong, it is the OP that is taking the risk. You suffer nothing apart from a pr*ck to your ego if wrong.

When advising OPs I do believe it would be wise to err on the conservative side, as to do otherwise may be more expensive in the long run. Especially when dealing with esoteric non-mainstream kit with an OP that is clearly not very conversant with these matters.

The advantage of using a large international firm such as Crucial, is that they give a lifetime warranty (while the kit remains in the original machine), they will advise on all matters relating to fitting, plus will take it back without a quibble if their advice is wrong. Hence there is no risk to the end user.

I hate to say this, but I reckon that with XP, increasing memory from 1GB to 2GB is going to have very little (if any) benefit on a slow-running PC, unless you're doing something unusually memory intensive.

I'd say you would be better off looking at other causes than shortage of memory.
