  • here is a site that identifies your laptop and memor type.

    http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=1212&Cat=RAM

heres the price on amazon too
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-Sodimm-Upgrade-200-pin-PC2-5300/dp/B000DT7ZJM

you may find it cheaper elsewhere but amazon has free postage and if you buy elsewhere you could get stuck for postage.

I think that takes 200pin DDR2 PC2-5300 or PC2-6400, but strongly recommend that you use the memory scanning tool on Crucial's website to be sure.

It also looks like that laptop can only take 2GB max (2 x 1GB modules).

my laptop is very very very slow

i done a scan on saturday using malawarebytes the scan took 13 hours to complete i'm sure it;s the memory that needs replacing

trying to open a webpage is so slow i can't even get onto crucial website to use the scanning tool

No, as there is already a 1GB RAM module in the visible slot and you might have a bit of trouble finding the other slot.

Some reports claim that replacing the 1GB RAM module with a 2GB module will work.

You most certainly don't need to replace memory, perhaps add another 1GB! I assume you have Vista.

Have a look at the sticky thread (by 'closed') at the top of this webpage which suggests things to do with a slow computer...

I did. If what the OP has is a netbook, and not a laptop (as he says throughout), then, yes, it has just one memory slot.

The EIS 1212 laptop has 2 dimm slots with a max of 1gb per slot. It takes ddr2 5300 or 6400 RAM - should be a matching pair.

If the OP can clean up the laptop as advised above, then he should be able to double check, and also run Belarc advisor to see whether he currently has 1 x 1gb, or 2 x 512mb. If the latter he perhaps should replace them both?

The OP must be really confused by now. But I strongly suggest that the OP follows my advice and picks up a good quality 2GB RAM module and replaces the 1GB module in the existing SO-DIMM slot. Examples here or here
Unless, someone actually has worked on one of these machines and can tell you exactly where to find the spare slot, you will likely be on a hiding to nothing.
