I have also rung the benefit fraud helpline and given them lots of details as well :j

Thank you they need taking down a peg or two and stop claiming money they don't deserve or are not entitled too

Thanks for the update - I hadn't seen the original and it cheered up my lunchtime. Just one thing I wondered thiough - you changed username in case they came on the site but this new one is a clear reference to the problem you are having with them and the details would give even this family enough clues that it's you. Not sure your attempt to remain anonymous would have helped.

I'm pretty sure they could have figured it out the first post. They have mentioned MSE before but i don't know if they go on the forums so it was a 'just in case'. As you may have noticed from my posts I am quite a paranoid person. :o

I don't really care if they find this thread, there's nothing I haven't already told them. It was more them finding out my email address and online "persona" (I use my main nickname on lots of forums etc - i'd rather not have them hounding me online as well as in RL :()
  • Good luck with this, I hope they arent drilling a mess and say that you then caused that, or indeed they are searching for the insulation themselves.

Perhaps they are just doing some DIY, hope alls well that ends well.
  • but... never mind...

If you have had the the joining wall between the properties insulated it will mean that they are also getting the benefit from the insulation as their heat will not be "leaking" in to your home. If they think they are feeling the cold they should try living in a detached house, then they will feel the heat seeping away.

P.S. The story above is also a good reminder about the dangers talking to neighbours. I have lived in approximately 20 properties in my adult life, in the first 2 properties I made the big mistake of letting the neighbours become "friends", never will I let that happen again. Ever since then I have made it an absolute priority to not introduce myself or speak to any neighbours, especially those on my left and right, because it can only lead to trouble. If the OP had totally blanked the neighbours and given them the death stare from day 1 they: a. would not have known about the insulation and b. would have been too scared to confront them over it.

Such bad form to quote your own post but-the day after I posted ..........They Moved OUT !!! :T:T

The whole street is celebrating -and even better one of my good friends wants to rent it so with a bit of luck I won't need to worry about the next ones :D

Actually before my neighbours moved in I'd have hmm'd over this story..........No more !
Mine are as bad as yours but no resident kids (one who was removed from the druggie mother visits now and again) and more dogs.

What I really don't understand is how people stay living in a street where the rest of the street hates them and no-one speaks to them and it really doesn't bother them.

I'm at the end of my rope and considering reporting mine -something I honestly never thought I'd ever do.

  • Oh man, your neighbours sound like a bunch of chancers. I hope you told them to sling their hook
(Admittedly I say this living in a 2nd floor flat where we don't have to put the heat on at all since the guy downstairs has his on so high all the time, though sometimes I wish he didn't since it's so darn hot sometimes!)

:rotfl::rotfl:Are you me?! If not, would you move in next to me and we can spend the next 20 years never going beyond a polite nod.

  • Hi everyone,

Again, thank you very much for your replies and it's nice (in a way) to know there are other people with similar infruriating neighbours! :)

Not a lot has happened since the threat of court, except more noise and shouting than before and a mysterious banging/knocking/drilling noise coming from their side. It almost sounds like they are drilling into the wall and knocking bits of it down which is hilarious if they think they can get to the insulation themselves (it's not a cavity wall - it's actually inside our property!). Or they are doing DIY, who knows :p

I am guessing "their" solicitor rung them back and told them they were being ridiculous. I have a mind to go round and ask them though with a secret camera and record the conversation...

I have also rung the benefit fraud helpline and given them lots of details as well :j

I am crying with laughter, let's hope the benefit office turn the heat right up on your neighbours from hell
  • I would keep a record of any threats they have made and discuss it with citizens advice not because you are I the wrong but then people in authority are aware there is problem between you in case it deteriorates. I would also tape him dosing his weights so it's not just still picture evidence but be careful that your not seen as then things could get ugly. You could tell him if he continues to pester you that you will report him . You can contact the local dog warden recthe dog mess in the communal area (they are via your council number ) and they will speak to them. I would. E careful cause of your wife and that your not there but don't let him intimidate you
You have every right to improve / maintain your property - my neighbour didn't tell me they were getting theirs done but I got mine done a few weeks later. Just tell them if they are worried re their bills that there is nothing stopping them doing the same
Next they will be wanting you to buy their groceries - oh sorry we are doing that anyway by giving them benefits! ( don't get me wrong if someone can't genuinely work or find work fair does but there are too many playing the system - I told my lodger to leave when she put an offer on a house and was still claiming benefit!!)
