Ohhh that's such a tough one :( always a bit of a risk with weddings abroad I suppose but that doesn't make it any easier. The only answer really, as with any wedding dilemma Vegas or not, is how much you want it. If you want it I'd still do it, even if it was just the two of you!! But I guess friend's own wedding and baby is a pretty decent excuse, even though it must hurt :(

Massive hugs though, go with your heart and I'm sure it will be memorable whatever :)

Aw JTR hope you both sort things out soon. At least it sounds as if he is trying to make amends.

Skoobie sorry to hear your news:(

We had a similar thing happen to us with our wedding- we had planned our dream wedding in a gorgeous hotel, and when we started to tell people the date, we started to get people saying they couldn't come due to various reasons (even though it was supposed to be August 2013, nearly 11 months away at the time). We even changed the date (twice!) so certain people could make it.

It got to the point where I had to see my doctor because I was getting really depressed about it (ridiculous, I know) and my OH and I both decided that our wedding should be about us, not other people and that we would just run away and get married and not tell people when or where we are going to get married. Hence us "eloping" to Gretna Green in April! We will have a big party near where we live in August, and if people can't make it, then they will miss out.

What I am trying to say is that it is one of the few times in your life when you can be selfish and do whatever makes you and your OH happy, NOT everyone else. If people are not happy for you, then so be it. Life is too short to worry about pleasing everyone, you will never be able to do it anyway! xxx

We've had a good couple of days doing wedding things. Our colour is pink and we're having lots of pink gingham since our day will be on a farm we thought it would be in keeping. We dug everything out and set out mock tables and tied our pink gingham ribbons onto the wicker hearts we have. We're making gift bags for the children too so getting the bits for that too. Then we went to see OH aunty who is making us a princess castle cake. OH made the topper which I am so proud of her for. Money is tight at the moment with only 2 more pay cheques before the big day. But we should just about make it. So excited!

Thank you all for your kind words after my rant :). I should probably clarify that I didn't want to cancel because of the money and his faux-pas in that regard but just because of the stress and hassle of it all!

What I thought had happened when he looked at his available funds was exactly right, he has no idea when he even gets paid (despite working there for 14 years!) and no idea when the rent and bills come out which hasn't helped at all. We have agreed that at the beginning of February we will look at what he has in his account and make a transfer to me for his first 'contribution'. He keeps going on about selling some of his DJ equipment but there is no point doing that if he is going to want it again in a few months time and ending up re-buying it.

Ok, moving on from that before I get wound up again!

    Wedding related stuff....

Spoke to the Jewellers on Tuesday and our rings were ordered, they advised they are going to make some modifications to my engagement ring to get my wedding ring to sit flush with it, not looking forward to being apart from it :o. Both rings are palladium and we got 15% off them as they are doing a Spring promotion. Mine was a bargain at £136 but unfortunately it's going to cost similar to get my engagement ring altered! I spoke to the manager on Tuesday when we decided to order with them and he has very kindly offered to give my other half a free silver band for him to wear during work so he doesn't ruin his proper one. We were really chuffed with that :)

On Thursday I had a meeting with the registrar to pick up our 'choices' pack and go through how the day works and what we can have music and vow wise, she explained what they would check on the day and when we would be interviewed etc. I was supposed to have a meeting with the reception venue after that which was just around the corner but I popped into the Florist there that are providing our rose trees to order two thank you bouquets for the mums and while I was there they called to say the wedding co-ordinator was ill and couldn't make it. Bit annoyed it was such late notice but guess it can't be helped, she has emailed to apologise and I will be emailing her tonight to have a catch up.

I picked up all my teeth whitening kit on Friday and wore the trays overnight for the first time last night. At first I couldn't stop dribbling :o but woke up with a dry mouth! I think it will be a few weeks before I notice a difference so will update!

I ordered some stickers for our sweet favour cones and fudge bags and they came this week, I spent ages dithering on whether to buy them or not and I am so glad I did in the end, they look really good! I also recieved my love heart label wrappers and am pleased with those two, I think each little roll of love hearts is costing me 14p so I think that's a bit of a bargain :D.

OH is apparently planning on clothes shopping next weekend and I have warned him that if he has not made any progress before we go to NYC then I will be VERY VERY . We have agreed to pick two songs each for the ceremony, I am going to pick the walking in one and one for signing the register and then he will pick another for the register and our walking out song. I think I already have my two, just need to check there is no religious references!

My big thing this week has been to try and sort out the thank you gifts. I have ordered the two bouquets as mentioned above, and I am planning on doing little gift boxes for the immediate bridal party. For the best man and my brother I am doing cufflinks, personalised coasters, personalised tumblers with a couple of tipples (either miniatures or pre-mixed cans) and some hotel chocolat bits. Not sure what to do for OH yet........? I am paying for hair & make up for my mum and bridesmaid which is costing me over £100 each and I have already bought bridesmaids jewellery and tiara and they have matching brooches too. I got bridesmaid a thank you plaque as a keepsake and my mum has the bouquet.

    I think that's it for now...........phew!

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

  • We started seriously looking at the music choices today!

We can't decide what style of music to go for! There are a couple of classical ones I would like, Canon in D for my entrance, and I think air on a g string for the signing of the register.

Neither me nor OH are overly into classical but I would really like some nice sophisticated music for those special parts of the ceremony, and those two I really do like!

Now...for guests arriving and leaving, would it be wrong to have some modern style (not instrumental) music? Or would this be wrong to mix?

We think we want these for guests arriving...
Leona Lewis - A moment like this
    Mariah Carey - Butterfly
    Extreme - More than words
    Atlantic Starr - Always

    and for leaving...
    Take That - Greatest day

We have been through sooo many songs and many of the ones we would have wanted we can't because they have a religious word somewhere in the lyrics :(

Can I have some honest opinions please?

We are having PINK vs KYLIE playlist for our wedding breakfast...I think it makes it really personal and sums us both up to a T. A little trashy...but everything else is pretty classic...with the pink gingham and wicker hearts...we like the idea of stamping ourselves into the music...

I'd say go for what you enjoy. Your guests will see you in the music.

We are having our song....speechless by the veronicas to walk down the aisle...with words...it would feel a bit bland to me to have classical or instrumental...everyone is different though...

Well things are looking up a bit.

We've decided that it's too late to change Vegas (yay!) and we're looking into having a ceremony at the reception instead of getting married before we go.

I'm going to ring the venue tomorrow to see what we need to do to make it work. I'm hoping that we'll have time within our half day hire they we've currently got booked but if we need the whole day then so be it!!

All this has made me a bit behind in my preparations though, still need to finish the invitations to get them out before the end of the month, eek!!

  • Ladies... I shall be no longer be getting married 19th April this year. I am absolutely gutted, more than words can describe. Other half and I are absolutely fine, but financial difficulties have meant we've had to postpone. Don't even know where to start :(

Oh littlestranger you poor thing! I feel your pain as we so nearly ended up postponing ours.

Had you booked/paid deposits for many things? Both of our venues were very understanding and would have let us move the date if we needed to.

If you've bought 'things' e.g outfits, decorations will you just keep these and use them on your new date?

Do you know when you will be getting married instead?

Sending dodgy hugs :grouphug: Will try to help with any other questions if I can xx
