Advice for a careful driver please; I have gone 18 years without a claim but this year had to claim when my parked car rolled down a hill and hit a fence, faulty hand brake!
I have protected cover but the new quote seems anything but "protected".
Is it possible to transfer my protected status (allowed two claims in 5 years, 1 life left) to a different insurer or am I trapped with my exsisting insurer?
In a nutshell can I compare quotes but keep my 60% NCD? but of course with a loss of one of my protected lives gone.

Yes (you must still disclose your claim)
  • Just used the advice from the web-site and rang Admiral to point out that Compare the Market was quoting me over £300 cheaper than my renewal quote for 2 cars with ....wait for it.... Admiral :rotfl:. I was put through to the "Internet price match department" who duly reduced it by £300 and a little bit . :T .

Thanks for the top advice - I will be calling for price match every year now.

    Cheers,
    Vit
  • question: how car insurance works? like do i have to pay per head? or the insurance depends on what sit you are sitting?

    Ask your broker to explain.

We can only guess. It could be the new lender considered you too stretched to be able to take on more credit.
  • Just thought I'd say got a quote from KwikFit for fully comp insurance.
Co-op wanted £70 per month (my renewal) but KwikFit only wanted £54! Happy days.
I've been with Co-op for years, looks like I'll be switching :j
  • Hi,
Are these online insurance quotes valid for any given amount of time or just for as long as you are logged in?
Got an email from the Meerkats 8 days ago with a quote number etc.
Went on to the site direct from the email to retrieve the quote and buy the insurance. The quote was on screen but said the proposed start date was no longer valid as it had initially been to start yesterday. The only option was to reapply for the qoute using the existing details, Unchanged apart from the start date being today, and , low and behold, the quote has increased by £140.

The only info about terms and conditions or queries seem to be about claiming a free cuddly Meerkat, Not a lot of help.

    Anyone got any ideas?

just a quick one, if you are struggling with insurance premiums get an old car ;) my 23 year old other half just got a 1985 golf cabriolet for 850 quid and the insurance is a whopping £200 a year

limited to 3000 miles a year but the same model car three years newer is 2000 pounds to insure...

    hope this helps.

Any Advice on the following, My wife's insurance is due on Jan 22 but with the gender rules coming in on dec 21st.

I'm Wondering if its worth loosing the years NCB to get a new policy before then?

She has 2 years NCB now and it will be 3 years in Jan.

    Any views on this?

Any tips for us? (I did read the article, btw). We are a Norwegian/American couple, insuring at 2002 Passat estate car. Last year, when I'd been licenced in the UK for just a couple of months, the cheapest we could find was about £1100/year. This year, we seem to be in about the same place. We in our 30s and 40s, no accidents or anything. The man is driving on his European licence, I have a full UK one from Aug 2011.

Is there anything we're missing? We have a private parking space (not a garage) & fitted security. We're only driving the car for leisure purposes as I'm at home and K takes the bus each day. £100/month is killing us!
