I have just discovered a problem with my (otherwise great) M&S Car Insurance Policy. I am the main driver, my partner is a named driver. I have business use on the policy but it only covers the main driver; M&S say they can't provide business use to the named driver...unless we get married!
We rarely use the car to get to work or travel during work (we cycle), but occasionally we have to, maybe once per month. As it stands, my partner cannot do this. I guess I need to change to a different company, but it will be a nightmare to go through all the quotes and then have to make multiple enquiries to find out if this aparrently rare (!!!) situation is covered.
Surely we can't be too unusual, living together, sharing one vehicle equally, each occasionally needing business use?
Any ideas please?0 -
If it's just for driving to work, then this is usually covered by "commuting" and doesn't need business cover.
Check the wording on the certificate.
If she is doing more than commuting then all you can do is cancel and go elsewhere or marry her.0 -
yes, it is for travel during work.
Hmmm, marry ... cancel ...:undecided
Any ideas how to identify insurers that would deal with this issue?0 -
Only by doing the legwork.
Either ring and ask or do quotes direct with insurers and see if they offer named drivers business use when you add the named driver (at that point those that offer business cover ask what cover is required for the named driver being added)0 -
Hi there,
I've just done a comparison search on moneysupermarket for car insurance renewal and got a cheapest quote of £454 which is about £100 better than my renewal offer. However I noticed that the site still had my old address (which is 0.5 miles away) - when I changed to the correct address the best quote was for £630, and the company that had quoted £454 went up to £1006! As a check I rang the company and they said it is completely up to the underwriters and there was nothing they could do about it as the post code is different (the first 4 characters are the same but the last two are different).
As a second experiment I tried using the post code of the house directly across the road from me and the cheapest quote came in at £511.
I've got an excellent credit history and have checked my report recently online which is fine so I think it can only be due to the postcode of my property. Does anyone know if there is anyway to get these things reassessed?
Yours confused...

Hi there  I'm after a little advice if possible please
My 19 year old is (hopefully) about to pass his test so I have been getting quotes to insure him on my V reg 1.3 Fiesta. So far the best deal by far is with Admiral, which was coincidental as we already insure our other car with them. The initial quote was £1069 with the tracker fitted but has come down to £948 if we switch to a multi car policy with them. This beats the next best quote by nearly £300 (the cost of the tracker is included in the premium by the way). The tracker simply tracks speed and manner of driving and does not prohibit driving at certain times as I know some do. Admiral tell me that "bad" driving will only be an issue at renewal when they will take that into account, so on the face of it, it seems like a pretty good deal for a 19 year old with brand new licence.
My question really is whether anyone has any experience of having one of these trackers fitted and if so was it good or bad? Also if Admiral perceive the driving as "bad" after the first year, I assume that I don't have to renew with them and my son will (hopefully) have one year NCD so could shop around? Would any info from the Tracker held by Admiral be made available to other insurers?
Thanks for any advice0 -
Having just renewed my insurance, following Martin's advice, I thought it would be valuable to share some things that I have noticed. MoneySupermarket is listed as the top comparison site to try in the article, and they sent me an email telling me about the top quotes they had found. After checking Confused.com, Aviva and Direct Line it did seem as though the prices were the best available.
However when I actually clicked through in order to purchase the insurance, I noticed the reason the prices seemed so good was because the information passed through from MoneySupermarket was not correct. It seems that the information had been changed to artificially generate a low price - namely the value of the vehicle and the estimated annual mileage had been significantly reduced from what I had entered. Some of the other details were wrong as well.
BEWARE - if buying through MoneySupermarket DOUBLE CHECK all the details before purchasing otherwise there might be problems later.
A second observation was that the price I got from esure when going through Quidco was over £100 more than the exact same quote when going through MoneySup. So again watch out - in some cases you can get cashback but it may have actually cost you more overall. In the end it was cheapest for me to go through MoneySup even though I was annoyed about the changed details thing.0 -
What is the html code to make horizontal boxes i need to make some boxes go from left to right but all i can find is on top of each other, you can see example here where the boxes are next to each other, and will this affect the page width on my site.
Someone told me use DIV tags but how do i put this in HTML code?.0 -
Hi everyone newbie here. Does anybody know of any car insurers that dont charge interest on monthly payments? Reason I ask is I am 25 in April next year and dont want to be paying over the odds for a year of car insurance. Cheapest price I have got is £1350 from elephant. Any help/advice is appreciated. Yhanks0

Turning 25 doesn't make a dramatic difference to your premium. (The compulsory excess for under 25s applies at the date of claim, not throughout the year, so if you claim after your birthday you don't pay it)
And cancelling a policy mid term is expensive (cancellation charges plus no NCD awarded for the part year).0
