Thanks PAP - it's shaping up to be a great one!

I'm starting a consumerism detox today - no spending on anything that isn't strictly required for the house or living (i.e. no 'stuff') until February at the earliest.

The one exception is that I'll need to buy some bits and bobs for my fishtank in the coming week. As these directly affect the health of living creatures, they count as essential :)

Hi that's a really good way of putting it, I want to have a grocery and petrol only month, but its impossible as there is always something which crops up be it school trips etc. its worth a try though, so I might join you on that :D

Good luck with your goals for 2013 - you are right, we're at a similar place in our journey, so I will be following with interest :D

  • Happy New Year Ed (and to Mrs Ed too).

The goals are good and I think you are right about not beating yourself up when small things go wrong. I have a tendancy to do this too - but it seems to happen more when I have a million other things going on.

Good luck and all the best for 2013.

Was at Mrs E's parents last night and we somehow managed to drink 3 bottles of wine and a bottle of whisky between 4 of us  I feel like I have been hit with the stupid stick and it was a mini miracle that I managed to get up and cook breakfast this morning :o

As well as the consumerism detox, I will be cutting down the drinking dramatically over the rest of January. We have one bottle of wine left, I will not be buying any more until 1st of February at the earliest!

I have an eBay sale finishing today, 50% of the money from that will go into the Emergency Fund (currently at £35 with 18 watchers and 6 hours to go). Until then, the EF will need to make do with a token payment of £1
