Ed- thanks for the tips. I must add looking at my pension to my frog list to tackle ASAP. Need to make sure it is being maximised.

Just had another If you and Mrs E are both learning to drive will you be purchasing one or two cars? I don't want to teach you to suck egg's etc but maybe a car share would be more benifical than buying two and maybe having to sell one when mini comes along.

*Hopefully* Mrs E's Mum will be donating her old car to us (a tiny 3 door, but only 5 years old or so). So to begin with, we're not allowing for any spend for car purchasing (although servicing, repairs and insurance will doubtless add £2-300 a month, even with weekend use?)

Great chat on the diary last night in my absence - I was in front of the TV watching the Simpsons and drinking beer ;)

Yay - it's that time of year when we all get to commit to stuff that we fail to complete!

In 2013, I will be steering clear of 'Resolutions', because one of the things that I've learned in 2012 is that life (and your plans for life) have to be flexible and loosely coupled. So I'll be using my diary to keep myself on the right track, but not to whip myself with the things that go wrong ;)

For the first quarter of 2013, we'll be focusing on wrapping up our Emergency Fund before anything else. This is my primary focus. We're aiming for 3 months essential expenses (£4k) and are roughly 60% of the way there. I have transferred our current OP Pot into the EF.

My main 'takeaway' for 2012 is to avoid wacky schemes - if it smells like a dud - it probably is. So no more speculative punts reselling items on eBay. If I can't quantify a definite return, I'm not doing it. I can't believe it's taken me nearly 30 years to find out that frugality, common sense and boring regular payments are the best way to build wealth :o

    Without further ado:

    Life Changes
    • Give something back (support causes close to us)
    • Stop getting wound up about small things
    • Don't gossip
    • Try harder to be myself (and not worry so much about seeking approval at work etc.)

    Life Goals
    • Mini E (God willing!)
    • Pass my driving test
    • Complete the NHS Couch to 5k podcasts

    Financial Aims
    • Wrap up £4k Emergency Fund by 31/03/2013
    • Continue using cashback, rewards and stoozes - be a savvy consumer
    • Revisit these goals at 31/03/2013 (my 30th birthday)

Wishing all my MFW friends success with whatever they set out to achieve in 2013 :T
  • Those look like great plans. Best wishes Tllly x

    Hi Ed!

Those erm, aims could all be applicable to me, too, although I have a few I need to add to complete my list. I guess I have learn that there's no point trying to do too many things at once. I'm one of those people who throws herself into a million things at once, then can't do them all properly to her satisfaction. I think the words 'simplify' and 'consistency' need to be my bedfellows for the next 12 months and beyond...

And Tilly MFW in 6 YRS: thanks for the link to Lula's diary! :D *Zips over to Lula's diary for a look*

*Comes running back from Lula's thread* Blimey, I may have to start from the beginning of that thread - I think Lula and I could get along famously! :rotfl:

I have started the new year as I intend to continue - with a series of small account tidies. I also got a couple of £ from TCB for some Christmas presents that I purchased.

    £7.76 into the Emergency Fund.

We stayed up for the bells last night, but the TV coverage seemed a bit muted. I didn't particularly enjoy the BBC jumping constantly across different parts of Scotland while the fireworks were on. Glad we decided to watch Father Ted instead :)

Lol, I'm hoping that my diary may be a bit quieter (boring?) on the spending front on 2013......

I'll see if you've got a diary and subscribe!
