Maybe you could have some crisps with your lunch tomorrow too by means of celebration...?

Possibly, but then it's back to MFW. 12/15 eBay items ending tomorrow have bids, so I'll need to get those packaged up!

    Evening :)

Ooooh I don't pop in for a day and look what happens...a nice large OP :T Well done  - that's awesome

  • I think I'm right in saying that Santander won't actually send me a receipt saying (you've taken x off your term), but as long as *I* know that it's happening :)

No, they probably won't tell you. But when you remortgage (at the end of a fixed term deal say) then you can either keep the length of the term the same or you can shorten it.

All my auctions bar 2-3 end tomorrow evening - lots of bids though and crazy amounts of watchers.

Mrs E got a new customer offer for Sainsbury's - £12 off £62. We really struggled to spend £62, so topped things up with freezer meat and fish and 3 bottles of wine :D

Not quite sure if I can OP this sort of saving, because it stretches what we already have (more than saving money proper). That said, any leftover food budget will be OPed at the end of the month anyway...
  • Santander will write to you, they've written to me at least five times following my last two OPs (made a week apart) they've contradicted themselves too (its somehow reduced my term and my payment according to them) but they have acknowledged each OP.

Well done on your first OP, they are rather addictive but hopefully that's all to the good!
I'm a qualified accountant but please make sure you get expert advice as any opinion is made in a private capacity.

I don't OP my money off vouchers, I just OP spare grocery budget as you say. You wouldn't have spent the £62 without the £12 voucher so although you get £12 of stuff for free...you wouldn't have spent that much if you hadn't had the voucher which is why I never over pay the money off vouchers.

Well done for your OP. I felt amazing in April when I worked out what we needed to OP each year to reach MF by 40 - although I haven't actually made those OPs directly, we have more than the amount saved so when it comes to April, I will hopefully be paying one lump sum off. I know its better to do it monthly but until April we aren't sure of the near-term finances so I'd prefer to keep the money where I can see it!

Well done for eBaying - you said about DY that you can only recommend certain things...I tend to trawl the top categories and find stuff to write about - you can write about your 3 bottles of wine for example as that is in the level 1 category at the moment! I've had a 36 hour break from it but back on it now in the hope of getting a voucher before Christmas.

Thanks Ammonite, you've echoed my thoughts pretty much exactly.

I wish I had the discipline to save OPs before making them, I'm working on it :D Will be opening a FD regular saver next month and will experiment with holding on to cash!

My goal is to get onto an offset mortgage by 2014, so maintaining large balances without dipping in should be good practice?

I'm torn over Dooyoo - I've made £££s from it in the past, but I really have to be in the mood. I stopped using it in 2009 and that was because I paid off all of my student debts. With being a MFW, I'm finding savings from salary, current account/credit card tricks and eBay selling more rewarding. Stoozing is next on the list to try :)
