I'm very bad with interest rates - I stick loyal to the bank I've been with for years and couldn't tell you what rates they paid on my savings. That isn't very MSE or MFW is it!! You have inspired me to find out
Oof - that could be costing you a fortune! Consider my example - 2.8% down to 0.1% overnight - banks aren't typically loyal to you, so don't deserve your loyalty!0 -
Haha - we're so skint!
Paid off the balance of the cashback credit card we use for all shopping (aiming for a free £100 over the course of a year) and it leaves us with just over a tenner 'spare' in my current accountEverything is budgeted for, but I guess all the small OPs have eaten up the spare...
£1.95 into the OP Pot and the EF, with about £5 paid into the change bowl last night after I tidied up the hall cupboard and the 10 handbags my wife supposedly doesn't have :rotfl:
Packed lunch today, with the last tub of homemade carrot and butternut squash soup for tea (Mrs E is going out). I'll try and get the hoovering and laundry done, working tomorrow and Mrs E's birthday on Sunday. Also got my first driving lesson to look forward to on Sunday morning - now where's that wee car smiley?....
Also on the MFW side, I applied for a joint account with FD last night so that we can open two 8% regular savers. I think it was referred to their underwriters, can't say I'm surprised as our address history is like a patchwork quilt. Hopefully our income will be ok, it's above average for this part of the world.
Managed to phone HMRC as well and got a pleasant surprise there. Apparently NI is calculated for each job individually (I'd thought it was based on total figures), so that's another £20/mth or so that I can add to the budget (spare money from my Saturday job).
Is it the weekend yet?0 -
I feel suitably told off there Edinburgher
I think I haven't worried so much about it in the past as we literally had no savings but now we have some small savings. Just checked
my ISA pays 0.5% - I'm guessing that is terrible???
Are regular savers basically you HAVE to put X amount in each month in order to get the 8% bonus?
Need to look into this - thanks for alerting me!
P.S - I have a husband who also seems not to like free money when he buys things online!!
P.P.S - 10 handbags is an absolute minimum0 -

My ISA (the home for our small but growing Emergency Fund), pays 3%, so yes
I understand fully what you're saying about not thinking about rates so much when you have smaller savings, but in a lot of ways it's *more* important to think about it then.
I'm not expecting exponential growth in property values and am generally quite gloomy on the outlook for the economy at the moment - locking in a decent rate is my way of asserting some controlAre regular savers basically you HAVE to put X amount in each month in order to get the 8% bonus?

They are - in theory we could tuck away £600/mth for up to a year (if we can find that much). The good thing about the FD regular savers is the fact that you can 'top up' the amount in future months if you make a smaller payment in one month (i.e. £25 one month, but £575 the next).
At the moment we're considering: a reasonable used car, a new kitchen and a mini Edinburgher - none of these will be cheap!0 -
Meh - just came home to an email saying I'm not getting an interview for a careers type job I applied for
Hey ho, at least I have my MFW to keep me busy at work0 -
That's rubbish, sorry to hear that.... Their loss0

Have fun Pickle, Aberdeen has some pretty good pubs and pizza places from memory
Mrs E's birthday today, so we'll be heading off to the pub and for some shopping soon. Part of my birthday present is tolerating the shopping :rotfl: Not expecting a very MFW day!
Have decided to leave my p-t job at the start of November, have only spent 2-3 days with Mrs E in the last month and it's not worth it. It will have been a good experience regardless, and has been partially responsible for getting me focused on savings and MFW again :T0 -
It is difficult balancing jobs. My other post is 16 hrs a month, keep thinking of packing in but pays very well and I get to wander about all day working but its so nice. So whenever I do a shift, I decide to keep it going.Morgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... It's GONE!!!!!
