Have read this thread on and off over the last 24 hours and have been thouroghly entertained by it.
You have a wonderful way with words and I'm sure that once you get that 1st break at writing that you'll be very successful.
I can most certainly empathise with you regarding the Job Centre. The clientele leave a lot to be desired and can be quite a scary bunch.Luckily,I do not have much contact with my advisor as I'm on the sick.Hopefully, you'll manage to get some work soon. It's heart breaking seeing how much effort you put in to finding a job without getting the return you deserve.
I am really scared that when I try to go back to work having had 2 years off due to cancer and it's ensuing treatments and side effects that I'll not be able to get any work.It doesn't help that I've been self employed for 20 years so don't even have references.I had no qualifications but have just taken and passed my level 2 ECDL and am taking Maths and English too.

Regarding your JSA and mortgage insurance,it does not seem correct that your JSA will stop when that pays out.If you didn't have a mortgage you'd be applying for housing benefit to pay the rent. The JSA is money to live on.I really do think that you need to discuss this with the benefits people or the CAB/WELFARE RIGHTS....if it really is the case that your money stops then that's another kick in the teeth for people that try to protect themselves against lifes' misfortunes.

I'm really loving the stories about Captain. He sounds adorable.I don't like the white van man though..idiot that he is.

I bring Tess a rather overweight 6 year old Rottie to the animal fold. She is rather cheeky and will try and steal the horses food and would very happily roll in the muck heap along with Captain. She loves all children and animals but doesn't like chavs with hoodies.
I've subscribed so that I can follow your escapades..hope that is ok

    Hello Taxi :hello:

Thank you for popping by, I've seen you on other threads, mainly Lucielles. I will look for you diary too, I think I've seen it recently, it shows up in the middle of the night...

And welcome to Tess too! I'd so love a dog. Can't afford one at the moment [and the Bear would probably move out]

Really sorry to hear you've been ill, I hope you are well and truly on the mend now. I understand your fears about finding work and wish I could reassure you.

I have had cancer and made a full recovery. I had a double mastectomy and reconstruction ten years ago. At the time it did not stand in my way to getting a job when I recovered.

Over this weekend I've been doing a lot of reading about how to write about being self employed on your cv. The trick seems to be to list clients, revenue and benefits you have bought to your clients. As well as advertising the fact you are a self starter, disciplined and focussed on results.

I've just applied for Lionbridge, look them up on Google and on the up your income board. If you are accepted there seems to be between 10 & 20 hours a week home based work available. See if you like the look of it.

Please stick around and bring Tess with you.

    Hi Piq and friends:T

Just popping in to catch up. Hope you manage to blow the cobwebs away with a decent hack. Here the sun came out for the first time in weeks (it felt ) so I had a spring in my step and the garden looked less likea quagmire. We even ventured to the allotment which is looking rather unloved but plenty of blossom on the apple trees so you never know the Captain could be in luck with sacks of apples coming his way if he plays his cards right in September!!

I am sorry you're not sleeping well. That's really a b&gger as it the makes the days so much harder. lionbridge sounds interesting too. Sorry cant help with company work..but keep trying I think for a start up/SME type you could be just what they need!

Have a good weekend and look forward to reading the food blog...will you signpost us all there?! I fancya bit of food po*n:rotfl:

Good to see you back, it's going to take you a while to catch up, especially on your own diary :o

I'm hoping to get started on the food p*rn tonight. Hopefully my account will be activated then.

We haven't been hacking since the deer incident, not keen on it at the moment. Once the sun comes out I'll feel differently.

I'm just catching up on the diaries whilst still in bed, it's really cold out there!

Me too - drooling over a computer will make a change from licking the TV when Saturday Kitchen is on

    Fair to middling :)

Waiting on DS to wake from his hangover so I can decorate in the room next to him. As I'm not really in the mood I'm hoping he's there for a while :rotfl:.

The cafe where the job was wasn't upstairs from the PO was it?

Fair to middling is okay :D

I hate decorating with a passion, it's not something, however mse it is, that I will ever do willingly. Good luck to you doing yours. I will be envious when you've got a freshly decorated room and I haven't though :rotfl:

The cafe job was a mile down the road at a garden centre. I really would have liked to do it. Still, the manager has taken my details. I can only hope that one of the students gets regular hangovers and doesn't turn up on time/at all and I get offered the job!
