Hi P and Friends
Your hack sounded a nightmare. We have little lanes where we are and the amount of ignorant drivers never fails to amaze me. I even had one old man that actually floored it past us even when we were flagging him down.
We were cantering alongside a woodland a few months back and 3 deer lept out and ran next to us - my horse initially nearly popped out of her skin and then just decided to follow them I struggled to pull her round back on trackSheep are her greatest fear - obviously the kind near us are far worse than anything else she has seen and if they make a noise I really have to cling on for dear life!
Glad you and Captain got back in one piece though.
Hope you have a good weekend. x0 -
Grr to stupid ignorant ************************ (enter swear words here!) drivers.
Had a few in my time, ended up and will still do riding near the white line so drivers had to slow down, if moaned at say my horse will jump if scared and if ride like this can at least have half a chance of pushing him over to kerb rather than jumping in front of cards. I find a long schooling whip on car works well if they get too close, especially if they have a convertible and cough accidentally hit them with it cough!Debt 13-1-25 - £39K!!!

The Captain doesn't like sheep either
but they're not as scary as deer!
I've got a stiff back today, probably from trying to pull a horse from gallop to stop!:D
I've done my mystery shop and written the report, hopefully I'll get another one very soon.
I popped into the tearooms that had advertised in the Post Office and guess what? The job's been filledI did talk to the manager and she has taken my details should a vacancy come up. I'm going to chase a part-time marketing job I applied for, I called about 10 minutes ago but the consultant [get them for job titles!] is on a late lunch.
I've been accepted as a paid contributor on a food site :jMoney is rubbish, but good practice on the writing front. I'm currently cooking spicy butternut squash & sweeet potato soup. Lots of photos taken. All I need are my log in details. Might help if I sent the requested info to the owner firstThis evening I'll make my grandma's plate pie recipe [I knew I needed those pie plates from Lakeland ] and take photos and write it up.
A couple of jobs to apply for later, blog entry, I've been lax the last couple of days and maybe a survey or two if I can stay awake while doing them!

Afternoon Piq et al,
I have been reading all over the past week . . because I lost my job and due to the weather have been losing the will to even hoover !!(1 bed flat, ain't hard !)
I have been amaused to the LOL stage of some of the posts on this thread and can so relate to the Job centre stories !!
I have been on a 'visit' this morning to the JC and after the last visit was asked to change my time from 13:30 to 9am because I looked like I would be able to get there and be coherent at that time of the morning !!:)
I then explained what 'logistics' involved because my 'advisor' was unaware . .In the most simple terms described it as 'comes in to us in a box, said box gets put somewhere, someone orders box, box gets sent out' . .advisor 'ahh now I get it'
Still onwards and upwards . .will keep reading 'cos it makes feel less alone in the world of the great unwashed !!
Lovely read Ladies (Gents?)

MelyMay, you're not alone. Being out of work is horrible. I feel demeaned and a lesser person because of it, even though I know it's not true. Come and join in, share your stories about the dreaded Job Centre.
You're not the one that turns up in your pyjamas are you :rotfl:I found that one quite surprising, but I see it every time I go now and have become immune! I can't get used to how many of the people down there smell of booze and clearly make no effort at all. I always make sure I look employable!

Thanks Piq,
I think I was considered on of the 'serious' ones so some waster has my late morning appointment . . must admit I was surprised by the amount of dogs tied up outside before I entered but once I had read the tattoo'd necks, arms, girlfriendsof the the other various 'customers' think I got about 90% of the dogs vs owners right !!
Wishing all Job seekers out there the best of luck . . but I am getting a bitabout the lack of response from all the jobs applied for. . . Boo to recruiters
Still on a happiernote my darling Mum bought me a couple of bottles of wine for taking her to the airport . . so an indulgent soak in some long ago bought soaking products (of the bathing sort) before a few vinos will help the weekend on it's way !!
Good Luck and Happiness for the weekend all !!:j0 -
Rather random post but I'm sure Piq will get it

Today has not been either productive or fun. On and off all day I've been trying to sort out this damn virus, I've run two different programs and they tell me it has gone, but that remains to be seen. It's been sending out spam emails from my hotmail account :mad: I really hope I've deleted it or my friends and potential work contacts will be deleting me.
I got talked into going for a hack against my better judgement. I'm not keen on going out if the roads are wet, but this girl wanted to go out and the Captain is known for being brave. Well not today.
He was a bit uppity but I put that down to water running down the sides of the road and large puddles. Everyone knows that piranha and crocodiles lurk in puddles just waiting to pull an unsuspecting horse down into the depths to devour him.
We came off the road to go across to the woods when out of nowhere we were surrounded by deer. Not the ordinary kind, the kind that eat piebald horses :eek: The Captain was terrified and took off in flat out gallop up the road heading for home  The pony accompanying us following as fast as he could. I was trying to get him to stop, but he was having none of it. When eventually he started to listen to me he was doing a sideways prance up the road. Then a white van appeared driving very fast, he could see I was having problems but had no intention of slowing down. The Captain helpfully reversed across the road into the path of van meaning it had to stop. The driver then kept his hand on the horn blaring it loudly and continually. Very helpful when you've already got half a ton of frightened horse and a pony in tow.
Somehow, and I don't know how I got him back to trot while making soothing noises about what a brave chap he was and from there I got him home. I had to have a very strong cup of coffee, I'd got the shakes, he was not the only one that was scared! He's fine now and managed to eat all his tea and ask for me!
I know people have views about horses on the road, but if you see one cantering sideways and the rider pulling the horse round, it is obvious there is a problem and no amount of using your horn is going to improve the situation. Half a ton of horse hitting a vehicle is going to write itoff . The Captain has an excuse for not thinking things through, he's a horse, but the van driver...
I don't think the girl who was so keen on going out will be asking us out again!
Piq
