    Hi Natlie :)

Thanks for popping by. I thought I was the only one who didn't really do romance, the whole thing leaves me cold too. You can love just as much without the serenading I feel. I say that as naturally I can't sing!

I haven't been on the other post yet, Saturdays always seem to run away with me, and there's always a constant stream of folk popping in, however, I will get there sometime this weekend.

I hope your weekend is going well and tell your OH I think he's very lucky to have you, romance or no romance!

Lazy day today, I spent the earlier part of the morning looking at the employment and job seeking board, it's a little scary, folk are a little blunter out there! Not sure if I want to post my question, I think I shall spend some time thinking about how to phrase it so nobody misunderstands.

I had breakfast with my Dad at the local coffee shop, we have been doing this for years and I made the decision years ago, money saving or not, I have no plans to give it up.

My new project involves sorting out my recipe file, throwing out magazine cuttings where, for whatever reason, the recipe didn't work or was horrid! Then I plan on cooking each of the recipes on various scraps of paper, photographing the finished product and writing it up, including any tweaks I may have made. Eventually, it will be a gift for my daughter.

Leftovers for dinner tonight, last night's butternut squash and chickpea curry, it was lovely, even if I forgot to add the spinach :T

Have ridden the Captain, we went out over the hill and down to the woods, where we charged through the puddles, it was great fun and both of us enjoyed ourselves. He is now tucked up with his dinner and lots of hay. I get to do the ironing, lucky me...

Think this is my first post on your thread but have been following from the beginning

I used to ride in my younger days and miss it hugely, but it was a choice of a car or a horse and I couldn't find an employer that had stabling out the back :rotfl: Eventually stopped riding all together in my 20's when I couldn't afford it any more.

My sister and I were talking about recipes the other day and she was saying that you should write on them what did ir didn't work or note any tweaks you have added to improve it so that others can learn from it. She does this for her kids and they have all turned out to be accomplished cooks.

  • Hello

Found this from doing a "horse " search on here as part of my marking procrastination! Captain sounds adorable and like a cross between our old and sadly missed TB and my childhood pony, who is 30  this time! I do worry about my oldie at this time of year, but watching her boing around the field today, she seems to be coping better than I feared :D Ahh, I miss riding (I also have an 8yo, who is all but retired, due to injury :( )

    Hi Piq,

we haven't met before but I 'saw' you on Pippi's diary where I sometimes lurk as its such a friendly place. I too have a tall cat and was reassured re the amount of food your cat eats! Mr A is the longest haired cat we've ever had and is a bit like a furry ball with his winter coat but I worry I'm feeding him too much as he is very round but that may be mostly fur :o. He too thuds onto the floor - he is lovely but very terretorial and each morning after brekkie [natch] goes upstairs and gets onto the chest of drawers and stands on his hind legs looking out of the window - presumably its to check the far reaches of his kingdom for kittens and seagulls. I think he may have a two way radio and binoculars up there too ;). Anyhoo there is a great thud when he jumps off the furniture. I may get the vet to weigh him some time just to be sure. He has an undeserved reputation there [we've only had him a few months as his previous owner got a new relationship and didn't want him ] for being a bit fierce with them though he's been fine last few times I've taken him. One of our previous cats had 'Psycho' written in red on her file but that was entirely deserved as she shredded a vet [she was new to us and we didn't know she would do that].

I love your Captain stories and the one about him and the Shetland made me laugh out loud. I look forward to reading more.

Very well done on your debt busting as well - thats an impressive reduction. I recognise what you were saying about discomfort over money being spent on you in that restuarant on Vals Day - having spent so long being frugal I find it really hard to spend money and even harder to spend it on me or to have it spent on me even worse . Am hopeful that wears off a bit as I think I may deserve the odd treat.

Oops sorry have rambled - better stop. Teapot

Hello dearest Lucielle - Glad you're back and not too scathed by your awful journey.

...and hello MatyMoo (great name) Teapot and Millie, lovely to meet you!

Actually, Maty, I'm not sure that I can afford the riding, but I couldn't bear to give him up, there are plenty of people who'd take him on, but I'm the one he shouts at! Apparently he knows the sound of my car and starts up until I go to say hello!

I've been thinking about sorting out recipes for a while, you know that you have family favourites and it would be nice to put them in some sort of order as well as make them look nice. Before I had my accident, I worked in graphic design, so I do know how to do it. I like the idea of adding notes to make it more personal. I thought I'd aim for a recipe a week. I'd also include the ones I've purloined from the magazines at hairdressers over the years. Yes, I am the person who took the page of the magazine you were reading.....

I know what you mean about worrying about the oldies Millie, although having to do a motorbike type turn to slow the Captain down on Friday when he took off across a field, I do wonder if age is all in the mind!

Teapot, if it wasn't for my man pet my cat would be on rations. I feel somewhat reassured that your cat eats a similar amount, I'm always a bit embarrassed at the size of his appetite! He's a strange one, but I put that down to being a rescue cat and not knowing his background. I seem to be the only person he is affectionate with, it cannot be my ability to open a tin.....

I love the picture of your cat looking out the window at his territory especially with binoculars:rotfl:

I am giving up on romance, it just isn't me! I will continue to give hugs when the man pet needs them and make his favourite puds, but other than that, no can do!

    Hi Piq
Sorry you didn't get the job you interviewed for. Is it worth writing to the company and asking for some feedback?

I love your Captain stories, the one about the Shetland pony made me smile too

    Hi Chev

I went through an agency for the job, they contacted me and did the spiel. I spend the money traveling to London to see them, to not get any further in interview process. My view is that the 12 year old agency chap did not put my overview together properly to sell me to his client. Later this morning I will go to the client site and see if the job is still open, if it is I will apply directly.

The thing is, I don't want to do it any more, I want to write but have very little knowledge about how to get published or even what I should be writing about! However, I can't survive without earning much longer, so needs must.

On another note, you can get your goat now if you like, I haven't signed on. I did last time I was made redundant, I only went a few times as it was the most humiliating of experiences, the woman assigned to me was rude and clearly thought I had got what I deserved. Nor did she understand what it was I actually used to do for a living. I never cried in front of her, I always managed to get to the park before I started. I know I need to sign on soon, but the thought of it makes me feel sick.

This is a cheerful post, isn't it? Sorry Chev....

Glad you like the Captain stories, there are loads of them, my favourite was always the llama one, I told it here years ago.
