  • Delurking again just to give you a 'virtual hug', I'm another welling up at the yard owner's wonderful offer. Rock on old chap, The Captain doesn't sound the sort to ease gently into a quiet retirement, he is worth his weight in gold to any yard for entertainment, surely :)

We've just the Welsh cob now, 23 and an absolute old bag. She'd like your lad!

Everybody else has said it far more eloquently than me. How wonderful. I cried as well, for the kindness of someone who could so easily not have been kind.
Hope karma makes its way round sharpish and gives him something good on the way to giving you something better.

I used to grow them when I was a child, I think their name is Limnanthes or something similar. They used to edge the path to the front door, very pretty.

    That's right. :)

    Poached egg plant

    limnanthes_douglasii.jpg

    Common Name: Poached egg plant
    Genus: Limnanthes
    Species: douglasii
    Skill Level: Beginner
    Exposure: Full sun
    Hardiness: Hardy
    Soil type: Well-drained/light
    Height: 15cm
    Spread: 15cm
Time to plant seeds: April to July

There is just one species of this Californian annual which is very simple to grow in almost any soil in a sunny spot. The bright white and yellow cup-shaped flowers create a cheerful patch of ground cover, with the apt name of poached egg plant. It's an asset in the vegetable garden as a companion plant to attract hoverflies which will feed on aphids and pollinate plants. It will self-seed freely and future generations will continue to appear and naturalise themselves over the area, germinating and flowering at different times. This can be imitated by sowing in autumn for flowers as early as April, and from spring to July for a long sequence of summer flowers. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

Leccy blankets make wonderful friends. I stayed in bed all day yesterday with my "friend." It's been so blimmin freezing here, for so long, now. Or i'm always blimmin freezing? I live in fear of the next gas and electric bill, and like you, i have to take the decision not to to put the heating on. I've even been wearing a hat inside, because the air feels so cold, and they say you lose your body heat out of your head? Not going to do me much good when i go outside, huh? It's just the way it is. :o

Naked penguins?? They do sound nice, but I need to lose weight, really I do! Moan away, I don't mind in the slightest, neither does anyone else here. We all have problems, mostly money, certainly a few difficult OHs and some very naughty pets!

I think of you as a friend too xx

By Naked Penguins I mean the Penguin biscuits but not in a wrapper rather than skinned Pengiuns :rotfl:.

Everyone needs to lose weight but you also deserve a choclatey treat every now and then unfortunately mine is every day at the moment.

Just pm me if you're interested.

Also with regards to the DMP don't see it as falling at the final hurdle you must do what you need to do to survive. I understand about the possible depression as I've suffered from it previously and have dipped in and out over the last year but you need to do what's best for your's, Captain's and Colins happiness and at least with a DMP you'd hopefully be able to breathe. A phone call doesn't cost much (if it's 0800 lol) so please consider it.

  • Ahh, I love that the yard owner recognised a kindred horsey spirit and wanted to keep him there. That is such good news. :)
