    ...and finally.....Dot!

A lovely post thank you for spending so much time on me. I am very touched.

I have to apply for jobs whether they are suitable or what I want to do long term. The job centre would cut me off if I only applied for one or two that I deemed suitable. I don't want to go back with the corporate robots at all, but if I can get a job there, I will.

I think this thing about having transferable skills is baloney. The employers are not interested unless you check every box and have done the same role in the same industry. They have so many applications that they can pick and choose and not think outside the box at all.

I will apply for New Leaf's job. I'm hoping your magic hat works it's wonders so that my mojo makes it's appearance tomorrow. I think it may have started working already. Story in my update, next post!

Hello Robin! Lovely to see you. I've lurked on your diary for ages, you write very movingly. I'll have to de-lurk now.....

In all of this turmoil and stress one thing, one large thing has been worrying me greatly. The Captain. I have know for ages I couldn't afford his upkeep anymore. I kept putting it off and putting it off.

I always managed to go to the yard when the owner wasn't there or he'd arrive just as I was leaving - you know how it is....

So at the beginning of last week I wrote him a letter from the heart, told him that I couldn't afford the Captain's keep anymore and how much I've loved being part of his yard and extended family. I cried a lot whilst I wrote it. I then gave it to the yard manager and asked her to give it to him. I briefly explained what it was, then ran away.

Every day since then I've felt sick with worry about how he would react, he is not known for his sweet nature and every day the yard manager had had a reason why she couldn't deliver it for me. Today she said I should go and talk to him and give him the letter. She virtually pushed me into his house.

I knocked on the door and almost immediately started to cry :o I shoved the letter in his hands and turned to run. But he said wait, asked what was in the letter and when I told him said that we would work something out. I would not have to pay and the Captain could stay until he passed on. He said the Captain reminded him of himself, cantankerous and obstinate :) Boy, did I weep then! Lucky I had a hat that pulled down nearly to my nose so no-one else knew!

....and one other lovely thing happened today too. DS3 bought me an intelligent electric blanket for my bed :T [not sure how a blanket can be intelligent, but I'm not arguing] He said he didn't like how I was cutting back on the heating and he was worried that Colin would be cold :rotfl:I think this means the cat will be spread-eagled across the bed whilst I hang on with one buttock desperately clutching an edge of the duvet....

I made the promised mushroom risotto but have run out of oomph for posting the recipe as I need to transfer the photos across to photobucket. I will do so tomorrow after work.

  • Me too! Great news about Captain, DS3 and the intelligent blanket.
  • Hi Piq, lovely thing for the owner of the stables to do and great pressie off DS3. I would keep my fingers and toes crossed for you but as I have arthritis it wouldn't work, but I hope something turns up, you deserve something good to happen.
  • Ooh, I'm all tearful now too ... have been so worried about the three of you. xxxx
  • I often lurk on some of the diaries - yours included. I am sorry you have been having such a hard time. It must have been very hard to talk to the yard owner but lovely that he is able to help. It must be such a weight off - but after all the emotion you must be a bit wiped out. It is so lovely of your DS3 to have bought you such a thoughtful gift (even if it is really for Colin);)

I hope your doctor is able to help (whether it be thyroid trouble or depression - or perhaps a bit of both).

Spring is just round the corner, lets hope everything picks up a bit (and anyway the arrival of the daffodils always makes me feel a bit brighter).

Am simultaneously crying and laughing - there are some lovely people out there :j. I know it would break your heart if you had to give up the Captain. I see how proud and independent you are but hope you feel able to accept this offer from the yard owner?:D:D.

The laughter was at the thought of you clinging on by one buttock due to Colin hogging the blankie. What a thoughtful DS - well done him, great pressie.

It wouldn't be surprising if you are a bit depressed too - constant stress and worrying will take its toll. You've experienced many knockbacks from short sighted employers and are feeling deskilled and out of the loop from what you say. Hopefully St J's Wort will help if you've had good results from it before.

Fingers crossed the good things from today carry on into next week too. Hope am permitted a pat on the arm as I know you're not a hugger. Am doing a :j:beer: anyway.

Sending a HUGE hug for the lovely stable man! See? there are real human people out there? And DS3 is a gem, you must be so proud of having raised such a thoughtful and caring child :)

Lovely things come in threes....wonder what your next one will be?

Chin up Piq, each tiny battle won is a step closer to winning the war!
