Hi Piq, hope you don't mind me butting in.
About your aches and pains, I think a trip to the doc's might be a good idea, at least he may be able to prescribe some meds to ease the pains.
Also he would be able to see if their are any underlying problems, better to be safe than sorry.0 -
G'day Piq
Can't recommend anything for the aches and pains but can recommend places to see in Perth if needs be although it'll probably make me homesick lol. I lived in what's known as north of the river, as in north of the Swan River, but have ventured south of the river when showing rellies around, and husbandpet.
Of course with your daughter there I'm sure she's discovered all the touristy bits to see and do. It's a completely different way of life, so relaxed and friendly and the weather is generally warm although when storms come through you do know it.
Anyway before I book my ticket back there (emirates are the best and quickest) I'd better crack on.

Oh Piq couple of things re the pain:
Footwear is it supportive, with a small heel or preferably trainers absolutely dead flat ones can be more hassle than not.
Also have you tried taking painkillers before you finish to limit onset of pain I.e. preemptive strike?
Do anti inflammatory work? If not could be neurological rather than inflammation so e.g. Codeine might work better.
Hope you get it sorted soon!Start info Dec11

Evening all!! Hope you're feeling better Piq, I get quite creaky too from time to time, had a problem with my knee for a couple of months but put it down to being too fat. Seems to be tons better now that I'm lighter so looks like I was right.
Ok, the diet. It's really not rocket science, I registered for this website http://www.myfitnesspal.com/, and have just weighed everything I've eaten, scanned it in with phone, or looked it up. I don't miss a day and weigh myself usually once a week. I've not had any bread, chocolate, cakes or biscuits this year, mostly because they rack up the calories, (but I do love them) but I've stayed strong, been to the gym where my daughter has set me a training programme twice a week and tried to stop bad habits. I've also avoided anything that has 'diet' in it, ie no WW biscuits, or stuff that is normally very calorific but has been amended to make it ok for dieters. I've eaten tons of veg, very little meat apart from chicken, venison and I did have a steak a few weeks ago. I've also had prawns because I'm working from the theory that if I can have things that I like (ie sweet stuff) I will have the naturally low calorie stuff that I like!
I've made everything I've eaten from scratch apart from soup - I have had cuppa soup at lunchtime sometimes, but haven't gone for the slimmer version because it's only a few calories more to have the real one!
My biggest cheat - drinking low calorie tonic water in the evenings and kidding myself there's gin in it! :rotfl:
But it does seem to be working, I'm on 1200 calories a day and I rarely go over 1000 to be honest as I'm full by then. Last week I was 23lbs down, not bad since Jan 1st!0 -
Hi Piq
are your thyroid meds at the right level now? Underactive thyroid can cause joint and muscle pain.

Yep me too ! Think a trip to the docs could be the way to go Piq !
Best you listen to us all before we get too bossy x
In relation to your earlier post, The Pinot Household are more than happy to travel with colin and the Captain. Infact DD2 would be in her element, much prefers animal to humans at times I think !
Lets hope we can make this pie dream a reality someday :rotfl:

Hi Pique - I too am on thyroid medication, have been for years and it's important to get the dosage right, I have had to have mine adjusted several times, otherwise your weight fluctuates and you really do feel creaky. I also find that cutting out bread helps me to lose weight, it just makes me so bloated (then of course I always slather it with butter - more calories)
If I could cook as well as you can, I am quite sure that I would have a serious weight problem - every meal you describe to us sounds so delish. I am a reasonable cook (well, Mr Dot always clears his plate) but tbh by the time I've cooked a meal I don't really fancy it (would rather have a mars bar any day)
Alternate day fasting works for me, having said that I have been so fed up this week I have eaten for England so I will have to be much more disciplined next week, in fact I will wait until I've finished this Snickers bar then think about becoming good again.:eek:0 -
hi P - can recommend some bute if you like (oh hang on that would be self medicating!)
I have decided to turn part veggie for a while - not comfortable with eating red meat at the moment.
At least if you see the doctor about your meds - he can give you something for the painful joints at the same time. Cortaflex (although another expense) is good - the human one. I buy it for my arthritic aunt in italy and send it over to her.
hope the working days go quickly for you over the weekend. I am looking forward to some riding in the sunshine hopefully.
take care x0 -
love reading what you are eating as thinking of going veggie myself but me being so unimaginative cannot think what to eat and I want to lose weight so don't want to eat loads of cheese or processed veggie stuff
Plenty of veggie ideas here. I have my own book of recipes that I'm always adding to as inspiration hits! If you want ideas, just ask, tell me your ingredients and how much effort you want to make and I'll see if I can come up with something for you.Just_me_him_and_the_pooch wrote: »Hi Piq, hope you don't mind me butting in.

I never mind you butting in, butt away...
I will try and get to see the doctor next week, It's difficult getting an appointment, let alone on day when I'm not working, but I will try.Fortune_Smiles wrote: »Hi Piq

Actually now I think about it, I think you're right, it would explain why it's so difficult to move with any speed too. I'm due a blood test soon, so it may all get resolved anyway. Hope it's not doing any lasting damage :eek:Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30
