The collective noun for owls is a parliament.....
This: http://homepages.shu.ac.uk/~acsdry/quizes/birds.htm link is for collective nouns for lots of different birds - some of them are very odd: A deceit of lapwings, an exaltation of larks!

  • Hi Piq - Us women at the height of our womaninless, now that really did make me 1 zero 1 :rotfl:. I am very proud of you for asserting yourself at work, how very dare they treat you in such a disgraceful manner, and I can just imagine you telling them calmly and firmly that you deserve to be treated with respect. Good on yer.

Waitressing is the hardest job I have ever had - I have done many a stint as well as working full time and by the end of the shift you can barely stand, can you love? Just thinking about it now brings it all back and I have just funny stories which I will share with you all some time.

I have just spent a blissful day with DGD, well some of it was blissful. We bought her a sledge which she promptly fell off and refused point blank to get on again - well that was a tenner wasted, I just hope that her baby brother is more adventurous next year! Then we took her to the indoor shopping centre and paid £2.50 to rent one of those plastic cars on sticks that you push around. She thought it was great for all of 10 mins then proceeded to climb through the windscreen and run off. So we returned the car and she refused to hold either my or Mr Dot's hand so I bought some walking reigns for £12 which she wore
quite happily until she realised that they restrained her so just lay down on the floor and refused to get up - she's not even two yet! So then we came home.

She has been lovely all afternoon but still a handful and refused to have her nap - she's in the lounge now, in her travel cot - reading aloud and Mr Dot is on the sofa having a snooze, it's like that scene from Tootsie.

I hope you have a good weekend, off to see what our friend New Leaf is up to now, then I'll check on Robin - she seems to have been MIA - I hope that that nice young man who does her odd jobs hasn't run off with her in his wheelbarrow.

    Take care

    Dot xx

I much prefer a hootily too .... and no, it does not seem at all fair to compare owls (beautiful, mesmerising) to politicians (not .....)
Hope you sleep OK tonight, Piq.

Goodness me what a ridiculous state of affairs with work very pleased you pointed out the error of their ways.
I also like hootily collective nouns are quite amusing sometimes. Currently trying to survive mother .... She is playing her usual tricks which wind up DH and pee me off. Woe is me I HAVE to do this thing when asked why or given options it is morphed into a " you don't know or understand how difficult it is for me because (insert random unrelated rubbish here ) which if call her on she then spouts more unrelated metaphorical philosophy crap at you. Dog is unsettled as usual when not at home and DH being a grumpy silent moody sod. He needs to man up and sort himself out to support me.
I think we shall be going home soon if only so I don't murder one or all of them.
    Sorry rant over

  • Hi Piq, how are you today?

I confess, I howled with laughter at the thought of your cat frantically looking for the intruder cat when it was just an app.

Are you finding it any easier to sleep? I have dreadful insomnia sometimes, especially if I have things on my mind.

Actually I feel that having read the last few posts you should have hooted with laughter :rotfl:In just two days we have acquired a hootery and a herd, the feed bill is going to be enormous....

I tried the owls at night sleep noise and it's not going to work either as Colin patrols the bed, just in case one of the owls invades his territory. I think I sleep an average of about three hours a night, the rest is either wide awake or semi-dozing/worrying :( I cannot believe there will ever be a time when money does not dominate my life. Insomnia has become a habit and a way of life. I fall asleep quickly then wake up with a huge body jerk/falling sensation then cannot sleep again until the early hours, misery....as you yourself know.
