sounds like you had a really good time at the job centre, can't wait for the next installment, though i much prefer Captain's stories.

noonar sorry to hear about you having to apply for your own job and possible redundancy, i had to face that within 12 months of starting where i currently work and with the CSR i'm going to be facing it again in the not too distant future. I was made redundant about 10 years ago and i felt like i'd been hit by a bus, in the end it turned out to have been the best thing that happened to me, but i certainly didn't see it that way at the time.

    Hi

Loads of giggles..especially about all your horses, everyone..if only they could talk, eh??!

The Job Centre sounds a hoot. Definitely material there for a piece..maybe even a book:D. If you can't get around to starting then just record it orally for now... even on a phone or anything thats easy. Then you can go back to it later...it seems to me that, at the moment, structure, beginnings and ends etc aren't as important as collecting your material:rotfl:

I'm going to re-tweak my cv - again. Someone has sent me a job role out of the blue for an art director role. I haven't done art direction for a while, but most of the role is running the team and that I can do!

Then I'm going to see the Captain, he's been a bit bolshy recently, so I've been doing 'join up' with him. I think he's mystified but he is doing what he's supposed to. I have a lesson booked for Saturday, so I need him to be listening to me.

And what are you up to? Hang on, I'll go and check you diary, be over in a minute...

    Morning everyone,

Noo - sorry to hear about redundancy - such a worry - we lost 3 staff end of last year and I was in the pool. I was terrified - dont want to start looking for a new job at my age with no qualifications :o Good luck - I hope something sorts itself out.

Piq - you actually made the job centre sound like fun but seriously I hope something turns up for you.

My little mare competes dressage and is a proper diva - although can spit her dummy out if she thinks she knows the test better than me. I remember one test we did a fabulous halfpass (sideyways thing for the non horsey) and lovely flying changes up the long side (looks like dancing) but unfortunately it was only a novice test and we were meant to just trot :o

My old boy has been in a few veteran classes but although looks like an angel tanks around like a lunatic and makes me look as though I have no control whatsoever!

Downhill slide to the weekend - hope everyone is ok. x

Hi Lam, good to see you!

I wish the job centre was fun, it's not very nice there and as you can see some of the clientele leave a lot to be desired. I still can't get over this feeling of shame at not working, there's no sense to the feeling and I know it's not my fault, but I still feel like I did something wrong.

I think your old boy and the Captain are related!

I've written up a few notes, and I use this thread as a reference to how I felt at the time. I thought I'd do a piece on someone in middle-management finding the system not set up for them. Middle-management often get a bad press as being unnecessary, overpaid overlords, but, obviously the majority aren't like that at all. Just all my friend's managers....:rotfl:

Yes, my old boy had me completely foxed one day. I was busy preparing him for the wagon ride to an event. Somehow I got called away when I had put one travel bandage on (yes this is a million years ago when travel boots were for the rich and famous only and the rest of us used wool bandages).

Result Gorgeous George had his party rug on (travel rug) and 1 out of 4 bandages. I merrily grabbed his head collar and began leading him out of the stable to the ramp only to discover he was hopping lame - really seriously hopping lame. On the leg with the bandage.

Immediately bandage comes off, sound horse. Check bandage and gamgee (cotton wool type stuff for under bandages for non-horsey ones) - nothing. Sound horse, trying to drag me to the lorry. Cue me reapply bandages (having realised I managed 1 out of 4). This time I managed one front leg and sister did one back leg - got called away and sister tried to load him

VERY hoppy lame horse on diagonal pair hopping towards lorry. Stop , scratch head, what is going on? Realised bandages were only on diagonal pairs - the ones he was "lame" on.

He had decided that the bandages were because he was poorly and the lorry was not for a party trip but for a vet visit, so him must be ill. For a giggle I swapped the bandages over to the opposite diagonal pair - yes very hoppy lame horse on the other pair of legs.

Bandages all the way round - sound as a bell and no bandages = sound as a bell. I spent nearly an hour figuring this out and until the day he left me for the hunting ground in the sky if you bandaged a leg he would be convinced he was poorly and hop on it until all legs were bandaged OR the bandage came off. Regardless of whether he had a poorly leg or not.

    I miss my boy.

Oh yes the dressage score sheet that read
    half pass - NOT required
    canter pirouette - NOT required
    extended trot - NOT required
1 tempe changes - NOT required
Leaving the arena before test completed - elimination
Comments "the athleticism shown when jumping the bonnet of my car cannot be denied, and the engagement of the hocks when performing the NOT required movements was evident. Dressage is based on control and accuracy, which was conspicuous in it's absence. I recommend more training with a Club instructor on a one to one basis to aid in this matter."

He was perfectly capable of dressage, but only when it was followed by a steeple chase and or cross country session. :rotfl:

I've just had a call from a recruiter who had seen my cv on Monster and was wondering if I was available. Unfortunately, the role is too far to travel, 70 miles away. However, this is not the first call, I had another one earlier and have tweaked my cv and sent it off, that role is particularly exciting as it is for a very well known charity.

I've found two roles online, one of which is a mile away from the Captain's yard and is offering good money. I will do the re-tweaking of the cv and matching cover letters after I've seen the Captain. It would be heavenly to have a job where I could go and have my lunch with the Captain most days.....I'll put extra care into that application.

Still, I mustn't get my hopes too high, sometimes these jobs don't actually exist, the recruitment agencies use them to lure you in to get you on their books. A very unfair thing to do to people looking hard for work.
