So poor I can't even pay attention

Ooh, thanks - I like the sound of that!
(you may be right about the volunteers - although I was thinking i general it's an area that has a lot of volunteers and not a lot of paid workers!) Grand idea to go and have a scout around and a chat to the inmates thoughxxx

Hello everyone!
I've been over to the park to see about being a ranger, the problem with the job is going to be insurmountable. Too far to travel with not enough pay. It's a 35 mile round trip, it will cost too much in fuel. If the wages were better it wouldn't be an issue.
Yesterday I explained to a recruitment consultant, why her end client weren't actually looking for an analyst, but were looking for someone like me! I must have done it well as she is putting me forward as a candidate. I think I may have done it too well, as the job is way out of my league! I do believe the client wants someone quite scientific and at the same time artistic, I can only supply half the equation.
I applied for another local job today, but I'm way too experienced for it, I'll be lucky if I hear back.
Tomorrow I get to go down the job centre again, this time to see a specialist who will tell me how to apply for jobs. Can't wait...

As a scientist my ( thankfully singular) experience many years ago with signing on was similarly tedious. The best bit being at the specialist how to get a job part she shook her head and said you can do this much better than I, you know what you are doing I can't even pronounce some these words.
Not exactly productive or helpful!

Hi Piq (and everyone else) Glad to hear that phase one of applying forJSA has been done and you are on to phase 2! Sounds awful.
Well I have had a completely plop day - turns out that my area at work is being "restructured", so guess who is up for redundancy! This is a complete bolt out of the blue, I work for a very successful cooperative and I don't think they have ever made redundancys before. I of course can reapply for one of three jobs - ie apply for my own job, which sounds far more glamourous than the one I do now! But it means that I would have to be on call one in three weekends, for less money than I earn now.
Now this wouldn't worry me - I think after 16 years in the same job a change should be seen as positive - however I have £26,000 debt (which my husband doesn't know about). I had a melt down tonight when I told him about job and said I was in a lot of debt - but not exactly how much - oops, he tried to guess (no where near) but I wouldn't tell. I am slightly lucky insofar as I had already spoken to my parents about my debt and they are going to lend me the money interest free - but without a job won't be able to pay them back for a while - not something I am comfortable with.
Anyway on to happier things - Captain sounds so like my Bert - a really jolly cob! My Bert rarely works in an outline - he is too busy nosying in people's gardens and stealing their greenery!
Sorry about long post - feeling very sad.

Oh Noo, that's horrid, even when you're expecting redundancy, it's a shock, let alone when the threat of it comes out of the blue.
And it hurts. Regardless of what your head tells you, about the nothing personal, and there's something strange about applying for your own job.
Thank goodness for your parents, they'll know you'll pay them back as soon as you can.
The Captain is being a regular pain in the butt about the newly painted mounting block, he will not stand alongside it, he'll stand and face it, not the best position for me to get on! Yesterday I stood in the pouring rain while he had his dinner bucket on the mounting block, amazingly, he could stand alongside it to eat his dinner....
Who needs to work in outline when you can work in an 'L' shape!

Piq
I love your commitment and enthusiasm for getting a job and the openness to trying something really very different eg. countryside management...sounds like you could make this whole job application process a lot of fun (and maybe even write about your experiences?!!) And great advice Cheery Daff....loved the systematic approach to the problem..I will know where to come if I need an organiser!! ;-)
I am constantly amazed at some of the great jobs I have been offered (and taken!!) in the last few years...being confident does help I am sure and getting the agent to now put you forward..well done you. And, well, it wont do any harm will it - and may even lead to something..whether this job or another.
Redundancy is rubbish. I know its hard so hard not to take it personally. However, particularly when its a whole restructure you just have to remember, Noonar, that its a post thats potentially being deleted ..NOT you!! Its not personal. its about the job not the person. You never know, this could be a silver lining and you could look back and think phew... thank god that happened
What package might you be offered? Might there be any enhancements? What support might you be given during this - whether time off for interviews etc etc? Make sure you use everything you can...

Hi Brizzle!
What a lovely post, thank you. Funnily enough I've been thinking about writing about looking for work for my second assignment, I can't think of a start for it yet, or a middle, or an end...but once I've come up with something...
Don't you worry I've got Cheery Daff earmarked as the loveliest organiser ever.

Morning
Piq, shame the park ranger job is too far, sounds like it would have been great fun. I would love to run a yard if I had the money with a few sheep and goats thrown in, wouldnt even mind doing all the hard work fencing and getting up at all hours!
Re an outline, baldy didnt do outlines, if he was going fast it was head up in the air trying to avoid the bit, a martingale helped a wee bit! Or if walking he did a great "hoover" outline where his head was down constantly on the floor
Noonar sorry to hear about the possible redundancy, I am in similar boat, still here at the moment but for how long I dont know so just surviving. Hope you are one of the lucky few that staysDebt 13-1-25 - £39K!!!

Good to hear you investigating all kinds of options Piq! :T :T
Sorry to hear about your redundancy Noonar
