I've finished my first assignment. I'll leave it now until tomorrow to do a final proof and then I'll send it off and start reading the course material for the second assignment.
The weather has been lovely, so I thought I'd sneak out and take the Captain for a hack. He had other ideas.
The mounting block at the yard has been repainted, it is now brown, yesterday it was a sort of grey colour.Today it's brown. No-one had consulted the Captain as I was about to find out.
For a full five minutes the Captain danced across the yard refusing to go anywhere near it, he snorted, he rolled his eyes at it, he went backwards, he went forwards, he did bunny hops but he did not stand next to it....This is the same mounting block we have used for years and years, it now a different colour, that's all!
Eventually, with the help of a friend, we laid a trail of pieces of apple leading to the block, up the block and on the block, so he ate his way to the block. Where I mounted.
By now we have lost over half an hour, but I'm on and heading towards the gate, when out the corner of his eye he spots a yellow and green tennis ball in the field, now that ball wasn't there yesterday...cue Captain, the drama queen...he couldn't possibly go past it, he just couldn't, who knows what was lurking behind the tennis ball ready to leap out and get him. Did you know horses can canter backwards? the ladies having a cup of tea in the yard know first hand!
I gave up on the hack idea and took him into the menage for schooling. Tomorrow is another day and maybe, just maybe we'll get out for a hack.

good luck at the job centre tomorrow Piq, just remember to take your widest smile, and just grin as they annoy you, it will make them really worried and you will know that you're paying them back in a really nice way for their incompetance. i never realised until reading your thread just how highly strung (in the nicest possible way) horses can be.0

LMAO re Captain story, Baldrick used to do this on occassions but if I got of he would allow me to lead him past it like there was nothing there, and then mount the other side, of course this was only possible cos he was wee, had I had I bigger horse this may not have been possible due to lack of trees etc to use to clamber on
Hope job centre goes well todayDebt 13-1-25 - £39K!!!

It's all to do with the fact that they consider themselves a meal for any passing predator, so will run first, ask questions later!
The Captain, as horses go, is a brave individual and not afraid of very much at all. He doesn't like change, hence the mounting block fiasco, or it could be that he's a middle-aged male
What he is though, is a cob. A breed of horse known for being stubborn and generally safe. He has these qualities in copious amounts:rotfl: He is kind and gentle with small children, he looks to see where his feet are then never moves a muscles, regardless of how the child is behaving. He tries to cuddle anyone who is upset and he notices long before another human! The surprise of a giant horse putting his head over their shoulder has shocked many a person into stopping crying immediately and turn round for the offered hug!

I have survived to tell the tale, so here it is...
I think I must be a very shallow person indeed as I decided to dress for the occasion. I put on a black pencil skirt, white tee-shirt, black pumps and black opaque tights. To make myself feel special I put on my black leather trench-coat, it has the most wonderful swish to it.
I swished into the job centre, was greeted by a lad who must have been on work experience, he was so young!
Maty was right, they went line by line through the form I'd filled in online - painful. I kept smiling...
Then I was shunted on to someone else who wanted to know if I'd tried to get a job and how I'd gone about it. Then he said he had to see my CV so he could advise me on it....He handed it straight back saying it seemed very thorough but he didn't understand a word of it!
All in all, it was quite as bad as I thought it would be, yes I felt patronised, and was spoken to as if I was taking up their very valuable time. But I didn't have to stand next to anyone smelly!
I have to go back next week to see a careers advisor who is going to help me back to work and I have to have another interview for something or an other, can't remember what on the 13th March.
I bought myself a £1 bunch of daffodils, I deserved them

Hi P and friends
gosh Job Centre sounds like a nightmare - and to have to go back again !
I dont hack my mare1 on her own as she is much worse than Captain - even been known to run from her shadow!! Has jumped a small purple flower in mid gallop and nearly pounced on a dog who was sitting patiently waiting for us to pass(I was so embarrased)! Old chap is fab to hack out but is lame behind now - had back lady out yesterday - he has pulled / strained stifle and lumbar area is tender so unfortunately some more box rest which actually he doesnt mind. Mare2 looking much better - finally scabbed over but still a very hard swelling although no heat
so not sure if that is good or bad?
I see all the daffodils around the yard and lanes are out now and they are such happy flowers arent they.
Hope you have a good weekend. Big kiss for Captain from the girls x0 -
Hi Lam
As my friends on here tell me, the job centre is a necessary evil until I either get a job or write a best seller, as I haven't written at all today the latter option may take a while...
The Captain is not spooky at all, I'm wondering if he's picking up that I was stressing about the job centre and thought he'd help take my mind off things!
My friend's horse spooks at purple flowers too. I can't think of any purple carnivores that would eat a horse...wait a minute, what about Barney the Dinosaur, maybe the horses know something about him that his PR people aren't mentioning.
I hope your two start feeling better soon, in time for the spring grass.
The Captains sends back kisses for the ladies and an ignoring you glance for the old chap!
