piq~Not sure how I have never come across your diary before.
Have read the first page & the last couple.
    Sorry about the job situation.
    Great debt reduction though.
I laughed at the story of your cat eating the food for the hedgehogs.
My cat is rather on the large side and is constantly mooching for food.No joy in trying to cut down what they eat~was even eating dog bones the other day  :rotfl:

    Hello beanie :hello:

As far as diaries go, it's a happy place here, full of animals, food [I love cooking and challenge myself to make stuff from the most random leftovers] and slightly off the wall [but lovely folk] pull up a cushion grab a biscuit and make yourself at home....

I think Colin is always going to be on the slightly large side too :o I got offered lots of advice on the pet board, but the cat is ignoring it all...

Colin the HedgePig food thief ... he hasn't had his light bulb moment then!
I am making vegetable cheesy bake to get some slightly sub prime veggies out of the fridge and into our bellies. On top will go some breadcrumbs from the freezer and some oats to make a crunch - not very inventive compared to your leftover challenges but it works for me.
Doglet is currently snoozing on my feet in the sun and I am prepping for the week ahead, no food thoughts passing his brain cells any time soon.

    Hi Piq,

hope you enjoyed your chlled out evening. Is Colin following in The Bears paw prints? I seem to remember he went round eating the village hedgehog food?

Indeed he is! He always stops by the Bear's milk churn in the morning, I wonder if the Bear is handing out fatherly advice ;) not that the Bear had a weight problem!
I was wondering about the outside shelter you have for Colin - did you buy it or is it home made? Mr A could do with one as he sits out in the rain getting wetter and wetter and theres a lot of rain up here!
I bought it online. It is designed so that rain will not go inside, although I have placed it in the shrubbery for extra protection. It is nicely hidden for him too. I put a large cushion in, and once it gets colder I will put a piece of body heat reflecting vet bed in too. He only uses it during the day as he's not allowed out at night.

Poor Mr A had a fight with another cat who bit his tail - ouch. Its better now as hes been on antibiotics but he usually holds his tail aloft and twinkles along on his lovely paws whereas he couldn't hold his tail up at all for a while and just went to bed. A side effect of the antibiotics seems to be that his appetite has increased hugely so he's eating loads .
Poor Mr A :( Here's to hoping his tail stands proud again very soon!

Well I suppose you could say it's money saving...but slightly criminal...

Sounds delicious! I always make breadcrumbs and stick them in the freezer too, mind you I often forget they're there :o

I enjoyed my evening of Strictly, I will watch again tonight to see who got booted off [hope it's Victoria Pendleton, she can't dance at all I'm afraid]

Whilst I was reading in bed last night, I heard a very loud snuffling snorting noise coming from the back garden, it was too dark to see what it was. It sounded quite large. Too large to be a hedgehog, I wondered if it could be a badger, not sure if they snuffle? Perhaps the local hedgehogs have had a whip round and sent a giant hedgehog to put the frighteners on colin....

No work today, so taking it easy. A loaf of bread is cooking ready for lunch, tomato soup. I'm going to make a coconut and sweet potato curry for dinner, there's one sweet potato lurking in the vegetable drawer and a block of coconut in the cupboard. It's crying out for mushrooms, but I'm not spending a penny today! So I might add some chickpeas or lentils, I'll see what I fancy later.

Wasn't there a giant hedgehog in Monty Python? Anyone remember what it was called? Maybe that's who is after Colin ... oh dear, poor chap if so, seem to think it was quite fierce!
The Striped Person has made absolutely sure he cannot be ignored by "franking" every single piece of paper on the kitchen table with his muddy pawmarks. How dull (and clean?) life would be without animals.

We have badgers and yes, they snort like truffle hunters :rotfl: and when you watch them run, they have big wobbly bottoms (just like me! In the plural!!)

I am really concerned now. There is a river running down the side of my house, both the front and back gardens are under water and the road to the house has disappeared under water too.

I just hope it doesn't come in the house.

    And it's still raining heavily.

I love the idea of 'franking' The Bear always used to 'frank my cream bedding :rotfl: Normally just after I'd put clean bedding on!

...and me, definitely a wobble in the rear :o Fairly sure it was a badger, not a giant hedgehog. Although tonight, with the amount of water around my house it's likely to be a giant fish :(
