Oh Piq's sorry I had to giggle about the poo on mat incident. Do phone vet they may be able to help.
Other than that try shoes with a little raised heel as in no more than 1 inch, just takes the strain that flats create over time. Also stake a couple of pairs and swap even if just for end of shift clearing up.
Try running water on your wrists , helps to cool downStart info Dec11

I don't have any shoes with a small heelHigh heels or flats
I might have a look round the sales when I go to sign on Wednesday.
I do use the cold water trick, it only works temporarily as it's so hot in the kitchen, looks like today will much the same:(

I called the vet about the Bear and the vet said to keep an eye on him and bring him down if I was concerned. All last night he had very hot ears and hadn't eaten his dinner so I'm going to ring the vet again and take him down this morning. I'm going to worry all weekend otherwise [and Sunday is a very expensive day to have to see the vet]
The Captain got his bath, he looked amazing - pristine white. He has started to itch again, he always does at this time of year, so he is wearing a fly sheet when he's out in the field. However, he's coming in during the day even with sunscreen his nose is looking a little too pink. He quite likes coming into a cool stable, he lies down and goes to sleep for a few hours and then happily munches his hay until about four when he starts making a lot of noise to go back out again. This involves a lot of foot stamping and shouting at the top of his voice

I agree with Alioops - token payments and all that and keep roof over your head.
Poor Bear - not the weather for purballs - ours are as miserable as sin at the moment especially as their source of drinking water is drying up - pond and anything with rainwater in it - they hate tap water but when its like this I have to remember to put a bowl down for them.
Bar work coffee shop/ cafe /restaurant work is bl00dly hard work. I did it all when I ws a student and some people choose to do it all the time.............. Changing nappies at the table !!!!!!! Morning Piq, can you get a foot spray? They help to freshen up those piggies. The suns cracking the flages here and I'm feeling the heat at this time in the morning!
Hope the Bear will be ok and the day isn't too manic.

Piq hope you are ok and so is the bear. I highly recommend Body Shop mint foot spray, spray on just before you get into bed and feet are so much better in the morning, always works for me after a long night in dodgy shoes!

Hi Piq
hope you survived the heat in the caff today. How did you get on with The Bear - was he musical during the drive? Hope you got some answers and you are both ok this evening x0 -
The coffee shop was hell on earth! So hot and the second cook doesn't like me to make matters worse. She thinks I'm up myself, though to be quite honest it's too hot to be up anything. The best option would be stretching out somewhere very cool.
The Bear has got an infection, of what we do not know, but he is running a temperature. He's had an antibiotic shot, a vitamin shot and a painkiller shot. Plus a course of antibiotics, an appetite paste to help him eat and another set of tablets that I have no idea what they're for! Oh yes, and a few tins of food for sick cats! All in, a bargain at £84
Seriously, I'm glad I took him to the vets, the poor thing was unwell and probably would have been worse by Monday. I can see the weight he's lost and he's still very needy, he's currently sitting under the laptop, just so he can sit on my lap!

It is the hardest work I have ever done, it is thankless too. You are completely invisible unless somebody decides to have a whinge. I cannot imagine wanting to make a career out of it.Morning Piq, can you get a foot spray? They help to freshen up those piggies. I'll look into foot spray, BB has recommended one. I won't be going to town until Wednesday but I'll get one then and possibly a face spray. I am normally an unbecoming shade of red sweat while waiting tables :eek:I feel for you if you've had to work in this weather today as it's very stifling.Hope you're ok
