Hi Piq - sorry to hear about the headache, hope its a bit better. Guess all the stress and heat isn't helping? Your description of the coffee shop reminded me so much of mid summer in the cafe I worked in. Absolutely boiling - no air and no windows that would open. Couldn't have the back door open in case stuff got nicked .

We didn't have a dishwasher so did it all by hand. One particularly busy lunch time when there were only two of us on we could only serve food and clear tables but not wash up and eventually ran out of cutlery and plates. The trays were stacked everywhere and we had to wash up a bit as we needed it. One kind customer could see what was happening and offered to wash up for us  but had to turn her down as she wasn't insured. I used to go home and just lie down for an hour to rest my feet and back after a shift on a busy day so you have my sympathy. I've got friends who think they'd like to retire early and open a cafe as it'd be a lovely relaxing thing to do - I laughed like a drain when they said that :).

:rotfl::rotfl:Almost exactly the same here! Even though they're turning over obscene amounts of money in both the garden centre and coffee shop they won't take on any more staff. The heat is the killer in the kitchen area. Yesterday some young disabled boy nearly choked to death, very scary. Nobody, customers or parents seemed to care, the lad was going purple. We called the ambulance and the paramedic said because of his condition the boy could have died!

Also had a woman who changed her baby's stinking nappy on the table  and asked me for a bag to put it in  I refused to take it away with the plates and told her where the dustbins were. Is it me or is that sort of thing acceptable behaviour now? I would never have changed my babies on a table in a cafe. I always went back to the car.

I come home and lie in a tepid bath to rest my feet and back and also have ten minutes shut-eye :rotfl:

    Hi Piq et al
Sorry to hear things are not so good Piq - here's hoping that a job crops up very soon - fingers, toes and everything else crossed for you.

Have you tried zinc oxide cream for the Captain's pink bits? I use it on my little coloured who has very pink muzzle and eyes, it is a complete sunblock and almost impossible to shift. It isn't that easy to find, but my chemist orders it for me specially - cheap too!

I finish work next Friday - no job lined up yet, although have only applied for 2 so far, I have a month's works experience lined up at a school in June so hopefully that will look good on my cv!

    Hope things get sorted soon!

    Noo

    Hiya Noo!

Never heard of zinc oxide is it like sudo cream? I'm popping to the shops later, need salad and soap powder, I'll go to the chemist as well and see if I can get hold of any.

Good luck on the work front, I will have my fingers, toes, paws and hooves crossed for you too!

    Hi Piq,
Sorry to hear that you are having a rough time. Sending you lots of hugs.

My cat tolerates the journey to the vets, she just hates the vet with a passion and attacks him every time she sees him so I don’t like taking her unless I have to. The vets are also more than happy for her to stay at home too! My vets are willing to do a free telephone consultation. Why not try calling the vets for advice regarding the Bear’s state of mind, stating that you are not happy to stress him out further by bringing him in. I am sure they will be helpful.

At least the bath mat will dry on the line in no time today.

    Take care of yourself.

G'day cobber how's it goin? nothin worse than dealing with people with a few kangaroos loose in the top paddock bloody flaming galah's. Off to crack open a tinny and put a couple o' shrimps on the barbie (enough aussie for ya :p).

I work for Adult Services and he works for CeX - my Dad used it in his father of the bride speech. "They were obviously meant for each other with Husbandpet working in a CeX shop and Alioops working in Adult Services" cue lots of laughter all round.

Your debts will not spiral out of control as you are on here and you know what you need to do to keep afloat. Yes you have paid off so much and I admire you for it however you have to think of what is best for you and your redundancy money is not going to be there indefinitely as you've already said. Stop thinking that it is failure on your part (just a guess) but at least making token payments and getting the interest frozen is going to be better than losing your house.

    Much hugs
    Alioops x

Hurrah our very own Aussie! Love the accent - thank you, it made me smile. I've worked with so many Aussies, they all seem to be down to earth genuine people. If I had the chance I'd love to visit Australia.

Love the wedding speech, your dad must have had such fun writing it.

I can't help feeling a failure, I know damn well I shouldn't. And I will start the letters and token payments offers on Monday. Today I'm giving myself the day off.

Monday most of my direct debits will have left the account which means I can get things in place for next month. I wasn't entirely putting things off, according to my bank it takes ten working days to cancel a direct debit and not incur charges.

I totally agree with Alioops, you have achieved fantastic things over the last couple of years and its time you gave yourself a break. You are not super woman, despite it seeming like that to me with all that you have achieved. As I said before, your priorities are your roof, your food, yourself and Captain, please feel free to put them in whatever order you wish. Anything else comes secondary.

Big hugs, hope things turn around soon for you.

    Love Gx2 x

Am sorry to see you're still up against it.The posters above are absolutely right you just need to keep the mortgage going and council tax going and the rest can whistle

You are right and I am going to sort things out, but I must add the Captain to the list of priorities, I know you'll think I'm mad but I can't imagine a life without him in it.

I'm glad you're back taxi, it's good to see you!

That's a good idea, I'll do it now. I should have added he'll only eat his dinner if I stand next to him. He seems massively insecure. Maybe he thought he was going back to the cat shelter?

Yes Piq sort of, without any of the added extras, it isn't as slimy. It is a total sunblock - used in a lots of the really good sunblocks. It's a git to get off your hands though! My chemist ordered it for me, took a while, but got there eventually. I will try and write down the information on the pot I have and pass it on. My friend recommended it, it is commonly used in America.

Hope you have a good day today.

    Hi P,

Isnt it awful how the jobs that need the most manual labour are the ones that dont pay enough. I did a couple of xmas stints at royal mail which was hectic for basic pay and at BR tax code! Needs must and all that.

Hope you are ok today - poor Bear though - dont really know anything about cats so cant comment - hope he gets back to himself though.

Enjoy your afternoon with Captain. We have a horsey car boot tomorrow at our yard and then a fun afternoon planned for all the kids. Going to ride crazy mare in them :D so she will get a bath after. Old chap is now out daily in a larger pen which he is loving and I think he needs another bath too :D

Hugs for you and the furry family x

The Captain has always loved the fun rides, hurtling round as fast as his hairy legs will allow, giving his rider a split second to collect/drop/hang on or whatever they're supposed to do! He knows what to do too and will push in to have another turn if any other horse hesitates about their turn!

Definitely, the manual work pay is rubbish, it wouldn't be enough to live on as a full time job, not sure my back could take it anyway!

I hope you enjoy the day, it sounds like great fun. Hairy hug from the Captain for you!
