I passed my test in 1960 and got 42/50:eek:
  • I got 41/50 on the bike test and 46/50 on the car test.

I don't drive, never have and never will. In fact, I only travel in cars about a dozen times a year, if that.

  • . does anyone still use hand signals? Would other drivers know what they were doing, or just report them to the looney bin?! ;)
Yes, hand signals were what phased me too. We're so used to solid reliable electronics on cars these days that I can't remember ever seeing someone in a car signalling manually. Even cars being towed seem to have working signal lights!

Car test 48 from 50. Failed on speed limits for towing trailers (which I don't own and have no intention of owning)

As others have said, the last time I used hand signals was when I passed my test 40 odd years ago.

There was no "cyclist" or on the door pillar question!

Kind of off topic but i was taking the practical for an automatic but on my theory several questions came up related to a manual car!!!!???????
I don't bloody know what gear i should go in at a certain speed nor the proper functioning of the clutch :D

Still passed with 48/50 mind you ;P

Passed my test 1st time, 23 years ago. No theory test as such back then just a quick, random selection of questions from the highway code book by the examiner sat next to me after the test proper (or was it before I forget?)

scored 47/50 on this, failed on the towing questions (I said 50) and the railway crossing lights, never seen or don't ever remember seeing amber, only flashing reds. Perhaps if I crossed one regualrly I would remember.

It struck me how non-technical the questions are, maybe its a sign of the times with busier roads and safety campaigning or something but I seem to remember, or imagine, my driving test and the lessons leading up to it were all far more about my driving and the rules of the road than hazards and other road users.

I passed with 47 but still think that the question on what to do after a RTA is incorrect
I did not realise that trailers could now be pulled legally at 60 on motorways - how long has that been the case ?
Why should one answer be "check that the person owns the car" be more important than "do they have a driving licence" ?
Surely - if someone is driving someone elses car - perfectly legally when someone could be breaking the law by driving with no licence ?

48/50. Passed my test ~1997 so been a while.

Twink I dont know how long trailers have been restriced to 60 (but did know they were) but did you also know that in a national speed limit road (single carriageway) transit vans are restricted to 50? That was news to me when I found out a month or so ago and I have had ned to drive one in a previous job!
