MERGED: Changing Suppliers
Comments

When you are swapping suppliers - you have contracts with both suppliers. If the first owes you money they have no right to transfer your money anywhere except to you. In your case, you would have to stop the direct debit with the first one and start a new one with the next. The first one should reimburse you. (That is what I think... others might know different, but I see it as 2 contracts.)Torgwen..........

Sorry - I didn't explain myself very clearly - what if I owe money to the first supplier? Do I have to clear that off before I can start a contract with a new supplier? (I am referring to their promises to arrange everything themselves - the consumer doesn't have to do anything)0

Thats what i'd like to know,i pay D/D but currently owe £100 for gas and electricity if i was to switch would i owe powergen the £100 or in my case npower being the cheapest would the £100 be transferred over ?Steve Gerrard is a GOD0

It can, if all parties agree. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

My speculation would be that if you cease having a contract with your original supplier, then they would either refund you any credit you had built up or want the amount from you that you owed them, to provide "closure".
Isn't this another case where asking their Customer Services might produce a definitive answer? Or, perhaps preferably, the Customer Services of the new supplier, to see if they will take on your debt?0 -
Hi
Can anyone help? I am reviewing my Gas and Elec bills and think it is time to move companies, but when I go into the comparison sites I get widely differing suggestions about which company to change to. Currently have five sites offering four suggestions (npower, ScottishPower, Southern Electric and Zest4 - whoever they maybe).
Does anyone else have this problem? Which one should I trust? Are any of the sites not as independent as I expect them to be (ie are they tied to some companies)?
Any advice?
Thanks, JaySThe only stupid question, is an unasked question ...0 -
Am I really the only person with this problem?
(See my first question in this tread, just above).
The comparison sites to change gas & electricily suppliers confuses me!!
Most give me different answers, even though I input the same information.
Any advise or help, please.

Many of these comparison sites have out of date information from differing suppliers. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
I am also with British Gas for both gas and electric and looking at changing. Not quite sure to who yet........but i am going to wait until my next bills when I should be in credit and British Gas will owe me.....saving me paying out any extra.
Even if I decide NOT to change I am considering cancelling my direct debits and instead putting the money aside in an ISA to cover bills as I seem to be in credit a lot of the time and its better sitting in my account earning interest than theirs!!Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -
Don't forget by not paying by direct debit you will be paying more, so that will probably wipe out any interest earned.
