My husband went to a wedding (we'd only just got together so I wasn't invited, I was doing something else that weekend), where the bride & groom were into scouts. They painted all the guests names on some stones off the beach for the place settings, and rested the stones on a piece of string/rope which was tied in some special knot supposedly to bring good luck. I really wish he'd never brought the darned thing home with him, we've moved house twice with this blooming stone and string thing, but superstition won't let me bin it! It's currently cluttering up some space on a bedroom windowsill. I don't suppose many of the other guests have still got the darned string 11 years on.

I put 5 foil covered chocs in a little organza bag as our wedding favours. Wasn't really aware that 5 was traditional, it's just my lucky number.

  • We had them at our wedding because my mother-in-law insisted we have them. She was, therfore, given the task of providing them at her own expense. Otherwise we wouldn't have bothered.

    :rotfl: love it!!

We didn't have them at our wedding 15 years ago, l thought about it because they were becoming fashionable but l was working 10 hours a day and couldn't be bothered to add another job to the list.

I did buy some nice candle holders which were to be given to my aunts afterwards but after the tables were cleaned up all but 3 were never seen again, cant believe people pinched them but they did. :rotfl:

    Happy moneysaving all.

I haven't been to that many weddings in my time (could probably count them on one hand), don't remember having favours at any of them!

I would interpret a "wedding favour" as the best man getting off with the ugly bridesmaid as a "favour".

I wasn't too interested about favours for my wedding but everyone keeps saying how nice my home-made jam is. I thought it would be nice if I give each guests two small (1.5oz) jars of my home made Strawberry Jam and Crab Apple Jelly.

I think the favours are nice, can be eaten and didn't cost too much and it was fun to make them. The only think I don't like now about them is I can't be bothered to find an organza bag to put them in but I need to.
We did this - or very similar. Hubby's mum keeps bees and makes honey, and my mum makes jams & marmalade so they very kindly filled a 1.5oz jar of each for all of our guests, presented in a little wooden crate. Twas a little personal touch and totally unnecessary but it was something 'from our mums' rather than from us which I think they liked.
