What is the point of wedding favours?

They exist so that guests like me can bring "graffiti gifts" like a basket of miniature toothpaste tubes and toothbrushes to put beside the candy buffet.

They seem to be the new chocolate fountains. A few people in work who have married in last couple of years are going for the "sweet shop" or "candy stall".
Perhaps we should try to guess what fad will be next and tout our business around wedding fayres!
I am going to go for personalised CDs with a song that includes the guest's name or just the bride & grooms name. In fact I could write songs espeically for them
~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Oddest one was someone handing out Paxo table salt - obviously no branding added, just the ordinary packets of salt. I did ask another guest if salt had some cultural 'luck' meaning, but no, they were just as confused as me!
Salt plays a part in many wedding ceremonies, usually with the newly weds being given bread and salt as a blessing . Not sure whether the Paxo being given out was the same thing though... :rotfl::hello:

What is the point of going to a wedding if you're just stocking up on material to sneer at and mock for later use? Not really nice is it?Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

No need to justify to me (honestly!) - I just don't see why these have become so popular / must havedizziblonde wrote: »What is the point of going to a wedding if you're just stocking up on material to sneer at and mock for later use? Not really nice is it?
Its not sneering - its a genuine question as to why brides (and lets be honest this is a bride thing) feel the need to do these little extras which then become must haves.
What isn't nice is when people feel that they can't afford to get married because they can't afford all these extras/must haves when at the end of the day the guests aren't there with a score card but just want to wish the couple all the best for the future.2014 Target;

I had wedding favours at my wedding, and everyone loved them. I like them at weddings.0

We gave our guests welsh love spoons with a personalised tag so they remembered where they had them from
.
Would not of bothered but my mother in law likes to collect favours from all the weddings she goes to and she would of been disappointed if we hadn't of had them. Personally I think they are a waste of money, any we've had from weddings are in the attic somewhere because I don't like to throw them away but don't know what to do with them either!

They are designed to clutter up your dining room window sill! At least my DGD likes to play with the bubbles we got at the last wedding we went to.0

whilst I am not saying yours were not lovely and appreciated, guests always tell the bride that they love the favours (most women know that some effort has gone in and know the bride likes acknowledgment of the effort or the touches).
whereas really most guests don't care if they are there or not.0
