I have just been given a smoothie maker, am looking for easy inspiration and also wondering if you can make a smoothie and then freeze it, and then defrost it again for another day? Is their certain ingredients that cannot be frozen and defrosted?

Also can you whizz hot soup in a smoothie maker or will it melt? I only have the basic Mr T one.

Hi guys - me again. :o

I've got a huge bag of mixed fruit frozen in the freezer (shop bought), and a 1kg tub of naturaly yoghurt in the fridge. That sounds like a good basis for smoothies to me, but I've never made them before and am not sure about proportions etc.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hi SunFlower,

I make a lot of smoothies but never follow a recipe. I just add a handful of fruit (straight from frozen is good) and some yoghurt/milk or fresh juice and mix with a stick blender. It's trial and error really...if you find the consistency too thick, then add more liquid, if you can't taste the fruit then whack in another handful.

I'll add your thread to it later to keep the suggestions together.

    Thanks Pink! :)

I've skimmed some recipes online and they seem to add fruit juice. Is this a good/bad thing? And any idea of roughly how much yoghurt makes one smoothie?

Also, can I just chuck it in the blender? The frozen fruit won't brake the blade, right?

I use half a tub of yoghurt with half a glass of milk and a good handful of fruit as I don't like smoothies to be too thick. Sometimes I just use fruit juice. The frozen fruit should be fine in your blender...I just use my stick blender and haven't had any problems.

Just play about with what you've got and find what consistency/flavours you enjoy.

Will do, thanks, but my tub of yoghurt it a 1KG tub, so that might be a bit much. ;) Roughly how much (in g/ml) is your tub, just to give me a rough idea to start with.

    Hi SunFlower,

I use either 125g tubs of natural yoghurt or roughly half an average sized mug of homemade yoghurt and the same again of milk, (but bear in mind I don't like thick smoothies....if you do you'll need to add less milk). Add a handful of frozen fruit, sweeten to taste if you think it needs it, and enjoy! :)

I have been given a smoothie marker (like a blender with a spout). I am unsure what to put in it. Anyone any suggestions for cheap, simple drinks I can make?

I am grateful my friend thought of me but suspect she has given it away as the novelty has worn off, and it is one of those things that is used a couple of times then put in the back of a cupboard! Does anyone use one regularly and what do you think of them?
