  • To be honest I make them for my son and just throw whatever fruit I have in, if nothing fresh then sometimes frozen or tinned and he happily gulps down the lot!

Do you drink them often? I can throw in a few bananas, around half a punnet of strawberries and if needed add some fruit juice/water/milk whatever you prefer. You can keep it in the fridge a couple of days, it does seperate if adding liquid but a quick stir and it goes back to a proper smoothie.

I also pop them into ice lolly moulds and have fresh fruit ice lollies (not what you were asking but a different way to have them).

For just 1 glass, I would say a banana and a handful of strawberries, maybe a few grapes if you have them and a glug of fruit juice, that normally gets around a pint depending on how much liquid is added. :)

    Hi
I have one of these and you can only make individual portions in it.

I usually use frozen fruit and either juice or milk/yogurt - Jamie has been unsing these to make instant ice cream on 30 minute meals, it makes thick soothies - you can defrost before hand if you want - it makes cheaper smoothies if you use frozen

I go to farmfoods as their fruit it cheap and get strawberries, apples and apple juice

Tesco do blueberries and raspberries - nice with yogurt

and melon and grapes etc nice with OJ

I also use it to make frappuchinnos like starbucks - mocha - shot of instant espresso, 3 teaspoons of drinking chocolate top up with ice cubes, milk and ice cream

or strawberry cream - blend the strawberries with some icing sugar then set aside, wash contanier then blend ice cubes and milk layer with the strawberries in a glass

  • My favourite smoothie recipe for one is:

    1 banana
    1tbsp peanut butter
    1tsp honey
    4 tbsp natural yoghurt
    2-3 ice cubes

Whizz it all up and I have this for breakfast or a snack to keep me going. It's really filling.

    Hi

Love smoothies and juices - great for using up fruit and veg that is maybe past its best.

One of my faves is one banana, about 200ml soya milk - plain or vanilla - with a small pinch of nutmeg, vanilla extract a good dribble of and small teaspoon of cinammon. Sorry to be so vague, but I don't measure!

if you want to be healthy, make a green smoothie. I just use a blender, half a cucumber, one or two apples cored, couple of handfuls of spinach, handful of kale. Not as bad as it sounds and if you find it difficult to get greens into your life this is great, plus it still gets quite a bit of fibre into you! Add more fruit if that is a bit hardcore!

    Never thought of PB!! Yummy.

Banana and milk are our favourite. Slice and freeze the banana then add half a banana to a glass of milk and blitz.
    Put the kettle on. ;)

    Hi,

I just use whatever fruit I've got as well, Agree, tesco's do frozen berries, much much cheaper than the fresh ones. I add carton of the cheapest yougurt and some fruit juice.

    No measurements, just "some" :D
  • Every other day I make a smoothie, and pop half in the fridge to have on the day I'm not making one. They always have:
one carton very cheap orange juice
    a spoonful of honey

And then I bung in whatever was in the reduced bit of the supermarket! Pear and strawberry is nice, plum and grapes is also good. I don't like banana so I never add that. I did try kiwi and banana - it looked like snot and tasted worse.

Blueberries are good, too, with apples.

I tend to add a punnet of "something nice" like blueberries, strawberries, whatever, then one apple or one pear.

I don't put yoghurt in - unless I'm doing the very nice "pear and cinnamon" smoothie from the River Cottage cookbook.
  • Thanks everyone, I'm going to try a basic banana one first to test the machine actuqlly works.
    1 banana
    nutmeg
    cinnamon
    soya milk

Was thinking of adding a few hazelnut kraves to it.

My brother has one of the large Kenwood smoothie maker, (I think it makes 1.5 litres) which he drinks in one serving. He puts milk, fresh ginger, frozen fruit, ice cream and mars bars.

I didn't think to use it to make ice lollies - great idea!

Just wondering what liquid I use for 1 apple, few grapes, ginger?

Any recipe with blueberries is out for me as to put it politely my body reacts badly.

So just for a general rule then its 1 or 2 handfuls of fruit and a large splash of liquid.

    Thanks again
  • You don't need masses of liquid. I use one small carton (you know, lunch-box-size) of juice, an apple or pear, and then a punnet - however much that is, you know supermarket size of soft fruits. Mine isn't a smoothie maker, it's a blender so it can do chopped nuts and stuff too, so it's not so urgent about the liquid. Add a little to make it flow, and add more if it's too thick.

I have just made a smoothie (I suppose it's a juice really, as it has no yoghurt) with one carton OJ, one apple, 4 small plums and about 12 miserable looking grapes, and a spoonful of honey.

I got a very cheap smoothie recipe book from The Works which was handy.
  • Or if anyone has any recommendations or there favorites.

banana, yogurt and fruit of your choice :) If you like it thick, you can add oats, too.

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread ti give you more recipe ideas.
