Well thank you all for that, I've just had my first smoothie to aid the crumper of a hangover () I've got, and it was really nice!

    If anyone's interested:

    1 Bananna
1 Can of Peaches (and their juice)
1 small carton of orange juice
a Large handfull of frozen summer fruits.

It was a bit thick (maybe needs a bit more orange, or a carton of apple as well) but delicious none the less!

just normal porridge oats, i assume? do they blend into the mix well?

I buy wheatgerm from the supermarket and add a tablespoon to my breakfast smoothies.

Got the idea by pinching the recipe from the local smoothie shop :D

I love smoothies but they are very expensive to buy readymade. I would like to try and make them at home, but have no room for a liquidiser. I have a hand held wand type mixer/liquidiser, will i be able to make them with this do you think?
ALso, will it work with frozen fruit, by the time i take it to work it will be defrosted?
    Any advice gratefully received thanks.:j

  • I do this all the time - ripe banana, peach or nectarine (something that goes soft ans squishy when blended)

Splash of orange, cranberry or apple juice.

    Handfull of frozen berries.

I blend / pound it all together in a tall jug with my stick blender. I make it quite thick because it gets thinner as the frozen fruit defrosts and lets down its juice.

Mind you I quite like the "icy" smoothies - so I often pour this into a flask with half a dozen ice cubes. This way I can sip this freezing cold all day without it ever suprising me with a lukewarm mouthfull!!

Great thats exactly what I want to do!! My wand came with a tall thin beaker thing for me to make the things in, and then I will pour it into a tupperware beaker. I never thought of a flask to keep it cool!!:T
    Thanks

  • I also used to do the same (with hand held blender stick) before I got a blender/liquidiser thing.

One thing I found with frozen berries - I would chuck these in straight from the freezer (not organised enough to get them out in advance) and would be left with quite large berry bits and the odd whole one. I'm sure these bits would defrost quickly.

(I always drink my smoothies straight away and quite like crunching the frozen bits, but maybe not to everyone's tastes!)

MMMMM.... that was me polishing off my first attempt at a smoothie with my "wand".
Sainsburys had frozen berries on offer, so i used a handful of blueberries, handful of fresh strawberries and some orange juice. It was soooo yummy.

Thanks everyone, isnt this site great!!!:j:T
