I don't half like those Innocent Smoothies0
-
A lot of smoothies are better with some sort of juice 'base' to give it a nice consistency - i think innocent use mainly apples (i've got the book at home, yummy
) and they recommend that you use bought apple juice if you want to save time/haven't got a juicer. This stops your smoothies becoming too thick and purely pureed fruit (although i quite like that!). So you could use a slug of tesco value apple juice if you're trying to save money and then whatever fruits you fancy ...

Can you freeze melon?0

In fact what fruits can you freeze successfully because this would be a great help to me?0

I use soya milk (value!) as the base for some of my smoothies, as it helps give the protein element and adds creaminess.0

you can freeze any fruit, but apples dont defrost well. for smoothies, if you are using them frozen, any fruit you'd stick in a smoothie will freeze and be blitzed from frozen. I use a handblender for my smoothies.0

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -
I try and buy fruit when it's cheap - either reduced at the supermarket, or from a market stall where they do whole bowls of a fruit or veg for £1 a bowl. I also like Tesco frozen berries which someone mentioned.
I've also frozen individual smoothies which are useful in the winter when there's less cheap fruit about. Or they are useful as a base when you've not got much fresh fruit at home. I make them thicker than normal and freeze in individual portions. When they're defrosted I then mix them in with orange or apple juice to dilute to my preferred consistency. I started doing this when I went a bit mad one day on cheap fruit down the market - as I live on my own I couldn't possibly eat all the fruit I'd bought before it went off! :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone
I'm gonna have a try over the weekend I think (along with my "not so healthy" donut maker).
Cheers All!0 -
Must admit to being a smoothie virgin! Having being converted on holiday was wondering if you can freeze them once made?
My DD loves them and is not keen on whole fruit in her lunchbox as she says it goes yucky! I was thinking if frozen I could take them out in the morning for lunchtime?
Easy way to get her one in five
Any help would be appreciated.
