Welcome to the "Savings Accounts: The Best Currently Available News!" page.

This thread has been created in response to the disappearance of free access to the excellent emoneyfacts Daily News Bulletin from 1st March 2012.

If you find a good new account then please do the following:

1. Check to see if the account has already been mentioned on this thread. If it is not, then...
2. Check to see if there is already a thread about that account (using the forum search function). If there is not a thread already, then...
3. Start a new thread about the account.

After either step 2 or 3, please post a message on this thread to let us know a summary of the account details and a link to the separate thread about the account.

If the account is a regular savings account, then do not post a link on this thread, but instead post a link on the following thread:
Regular Savings Accounts: The Best Currently Available List!

If the account is a cash ISA account, then do not post a link on this thread, but instead post a link on the following thread:
Cash ISAs: The Best Currently Available List

Likewise, if you find that a good account is going to close to new applications soon then post a message to let us know.

This thread has been inspired by buffman (in this thread) and the success of the corresponding best cash ISAs thread (by Kazza242) and the best regular savings thread (by yours truly!).

If nobody feels that this thread is of any use then I shall refrain from adding to it and let it fade away into oblivion....

If you are like me and you do not have enough time to visit the forum every day, you can click on "Thread Tools" above and then subscribe to this page so that you receive an e-mail every time a new message is posted or receive a summary of all new posts every day. If you are interested in regular savings accounts and cash ISA accounts then do not forget to subscribe to those threads too!

It would be helpful if people tagged the following text on to the end of their posts:

There are plenty of sites already that offer Best Rates tables. For me one of the best feature of emoneyfacts was that it informed me when variable rate accounts dropped their rates.

    That is a fair point.

The thing is that I cannot check those websites every day in case there is a good, new account out as I am really busy during the week. There may be other people like me in that respect. I depend upon this forum and emoneyfacts to point new accounts, indeed there was a really good account from Monmouthshire Building Society recently that somebody revealed first on this forum.

Thanks Special_Saver2. What I liked about the Emoneyfacts was the constant flow of information about new accounts/withdrawn products. I agree that we do not need to create a new Best Buy site but instead to find a way to inform when a new product becomes available. Sometimes the really good accounts are only available for a matter of hours! The weakness of Best Buy tables is that savers have different requirements and a Best Buy table may not be suitable. For example a saver may have used up his £85k protection with the market leader and is looking for the next best product. Another floor is that there are a number of different categories to continuously check. Emoneyfacts streams all new savings products and those withdrawn in one place.

Do I assume from the distinct lack of activity on here that this thread won't be used?

Whilst there are best buy tables available for standard savings accounts, the same is true of both ISAs and Regular Savers, and those both have very successful threads of their own.

Yesterday for me was a good example why I will miss Emoneyfacts and why this thread is a good idea. It was posted yesterday on Emoneyfacts that First Save was reducing the rates it paid on its fixed rate bonds from today. Hence I was forwarned and had sufficent time yesterday to open up a new bond. Without Emoneyfacta or a 'live' thread here, I will never have known.

I have revised my idea for how this thread should work. I agree with the posts above that there are plenty of sites offering best buy tables and the MSE team do a good job of updating their own best savings account page.

What I think would be helpful is to make this thread into a news thread to alert people to the appearance and impending disappearance of good new accounts.

I have changed the final word of the title of this thread to "News" to reflect this.

I have subscribed to this thread so that I receive a daily summary of the news posted here. I have already subscribed to the regular savings and cash ISAs threads with daily summary updates. With the impending change of access to eMoneyfacts Daily News Bulletin to subscribers only from Thursday, I think this thread could end up being quite useful for people like me who cannot visit the forum every day.

Please have a look at my revised guidelines regarding how this thread should work (see post 1).
