In my student days she would have been enjoying (or probably not) an unexpected trip illegal or not.

I very much like the idea of tricking the thief and punishing them.
    Sacrafice a ready-meal or 2.
Don't let them get off lightly. If you want to go down the 'spike them with chilli' route, then rather than just using powder,
invest in some 'Daves' insanity sauce' and pour it on liberally. They will literally be crying on the floor, it is that bad!!! I promise.
  • Actually you tend to get used to it very quickly. Mine kept me awake for the first night but after that I didn't notice it anymore.

everyone is differen t i suppose. I can't stand it. I have a microserver running in my room, it had a noisy psu fan and case, fan. I spent a fair bit of money getting a fanless psu and upgraded the fan to something a lot quieter.

I shared a kitchen with 7 other girls and we had a girl who basically went a whole year without going shopping. She was the only problem, everyone else was very respectful and we all knew it was her, confronted her about it and she just laughed it off and continued!!

She graduated and became an MP? ;)

  • I second the comment that halls wardens don't care. They don't want to have to tell you off and get involved because it is hassle and they're probably quite sick of dealing with hundreds of hormonal drunk rude teenagers year after year. Just put it somewhere else when they do halls inspections (a mate's flat or house) and bring it back afterwards.

My wayward housemate in halls sold weed out of our flat (cheeky !!!!!!!) and they did a 'raid' one day where they flushed 1 baggy of weed away and told him to stop it. A quick search of his drawers would have found the huge baggy he was filling the little baggies with but I think they just weren't bothered because it would have meant lots of paperwork, the police, hassle, bad publicity, filling an empty room mid year, etc. Moral of the story: warden's don't care.

I agree with the idea of spiking your food with chilli or laxatives. It's not poisoning someone with malicious intent; you may genuinely have a problem with your bowel movements or a love of very spicy food it's not your fault they helped themselves ;)

I think this is not allowed in the common facility.
If the OP is doing that even if she manages shaming the squarrel, the OP will be the first one to be kicked out from the house by the management.

    What are you on about?

I am talking about "Valli" suggestion to "pippaaaaaaa" to put Webcam in the effort to stop her housemate stealing her foods. (as below)

Keep in mind "pippaaaaaaa" is leaving in a shared house with sharing facility. You can not put webcam to montor people in sharing facility such as in the Kitchen, in the Corridor without the permission from house management.

If you do that even in the effort of catching the thief you will be the person who wil be kicked out by the house management first, thief might come second ....

right, this is slightly mse as it is costing me a fortune in lost food.

basically i live on a corridor of about 35-40 people, with a shared kitchen. we have cupboards that can be padlocked (and mine are) but the fridge and freezers are communal. someone keeps stealing food, and i've had 3 meals pinched in 48 hours. i literally only keep butter and milk in the fridge now. i don't want to be in the habit of only buying food each day, because then i'm going to wind up living off ready meals, as it's impossible to buy single portions of fresh ingredients, and i resent having them stolen!

so, does anyone know any way around having food stolen? has anyone seen any lockable food storage containers i could put all my food in for the fridge & freezer?

no one's figured out who the food thief is yet, and i think they're stealing food at odd times of day/night when no one's around so as not to get caught, so confronting them isn't an option because nobody knows for sure. with so many people on the corridor i also don't know half of them because i never see them, so i can't talk to everyone individually :\ i'm hoping for cheap solutions!
