Theiving is more illegal than using a webcam. Plus how will they prove the webcam was put in by pippaaaaaaa ? Do you think a student is too stupid to post on you tube under a false name? The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

If you show anonymous secret video, inthe effort of shaming peole, how could you convince other people that it is thief not just your personal interest to discredit the housemate you do not like in your house ?
How could you convince other people that s/he is not taking his/her own food from the comon fridge. Unless there is a very big lebel with font size of 40 in that stuffs/food container ....
I was living in sharing accomodation with sahring facility in my eraly days as a student, and I have seen people just do not bother to put each of their food container lebelled. It is too much hassles compared to the value of the food itself .... I would rather let my food stolen rather if I have tto put font size 40 on each of my food on the fridge ...adouglasmhor wrote: »Theiving is more illegal than using a webcam. If it's anonymous you would be giving the game away by going round trying to convince people.

One of my friends had a similar problem in their first year. After some careful watching of the kitchen, their flat decided it was one of the international students who was stealing the food.
Next day, they all got together and threatened calling the police "who take theft very seriously and would have him deported and visa cancelled". Needless to say, there was never a problem after this...
On the other hand, I'm living with 5 postgraduates (all foreign) at the moment who are absolutely perfect. There have been no problems with anything in any of the cupboards or the fridge. They really are good people to be living with.0 -
The main issue here how you prove it.
Even if you have cctv footage, how could you could prove to other people (including the old bill) that he is stealing rather then taking his/her own food.
Keep in mind it is a shared fridge, no label on it ...
Also I very much doubt that the old bill will be taking it seriously if you report that your sugar, teabags, milk, food stole, home made curry is getting stolen by your lazy house mate in a shared accommodation. They have too much other things to do ...
I was living in shared accommodation with shared facility in almost all of my student life. I have heard too many stories of housemates getting their sugar, teabags, milk, home made curry stolen all the times by the lazy students who is too lazy to do shopping. I have heard the same stories all the times during my uni life ...
I have heard similar story in the work place about the work colleague notice that her/his milks, tea bags, have been taken taken by someone intentionally or unintentionally.
If the old bill is to take these case seriously then the prison is already full by now. The dailymail is already fill of stories like this ....
About deportation of foreign nationals I believe this is more to do with tory politics rather then punishing a little squirrel.
I am more worried of getting kicked off by the warden/house management from installing secret camera rather then punishing the little squirrel. If I had a courage of installing webcam in the student house I would rather install it in the bathroom. There will be more interesting stuffs to see. Not to mention the possibility to make money by selling it ...
If I am to punish him I will rather put a lot of ground rocket chillies on my food rather then wasting time watching webcam, reporting this little squirrel to the police.
Some people take the case of little squirrel too seriously and comparing it with serious thieves. If my laptop was getting stolen the thing could be entirely different ...glider3560 wrote: »One of my friends had a similar problem in their first year. I wouldn't dream of suggesting that you heavily lace an item of food with laxative and wait to see who spends the next few hours in the toilet
i've done this a few years back when people's lunchers were being nicked at work! and it works the person(s) soon stoped and left work! :j:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
remember your old bags!0 -
I used to work in an office where there was a food and milk thief..it was so annoying. I remember that those of us who were having our food and milk pinched would write a note on the food - one girl claiming that the milk contained breast milk, another said hers was prescribed by the NHS as it contained medication. We did the same with the food.
I remember putting some dental plaque disclosing tablets in a cake and left that in the fridge - it got pinched as expected and then it was real easy to see who had pinched it because their mouth had turned blue (it turned out to be my boss as he felt a bit peckish and thought..ah hah..free cake). I pushed them in after the cake was cooked. My boss was mortified that he had been caught blue mouthed and even more embarrassed as he had to attend a meeting and hadnt got his toothbrush with him.0 -

Lol. No, she's working as a doctor now. Probably still not paying for food and stealing it from the patients.0
