Have just bobbed on to subscribe to this thread. Will read later so I can drool, plan, hyperventilate. :rotfl:
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

  • I'm sure this thread will only feed my addiction despite it's intentions.

I have about 50, ranging from Chanel at the top end down through OPI, Nails Inc, Barry M, Rimmel to MUA. I have to say that MUA nail varnishes are only £1 and are great quality. Quite limited colour range at the moment though.

I'm a nurse so I cannot wear varnish on my fingers most of the time but I always wear on my toes. I'm currently wearing the teal colour from the OPI Nicki Minaj range.

I joined the no toiletries thread two years ago and I haven't bought anything except when I ran out of something. I'm afraid this failed on the nail varnish front though.

Thanks for joining up ladies; I'm glad that we're all in good company here :)

I'm currently wearing China Glaze Turned up Turquoise on my hands, and A-England Morgan Le Fay on my toes.

I can see this thread feeding my addiction too, but if i'm honest, I've got to learn to resist somehow, we all do, so we can at least try together! I estimate I have c.130+ (It was 100 at last count a few months ago )

I just like the colour it brings into my life. I can't afford to buy handbags as much as I'd like, and shoes aren't my thing, but nail polishes (and eyeshadows) are a cheaper way of getting that tingly happy feeling IMO.

Mimi Arc en ciel Please do join us anyway!!

FannyAdams I love the pic! I have a few Nails Inc minis too, and I totally agree about the pain it is to get the brush in and out  That's a great idea about hitting the minis first :T

tokkiandoliver You can start using them up, you may be over your no-buy sooner than 2013! Hats off to you though, I don't think I have the will-power to go longer than two weeks on a no-buy. I'm going to aim for a month, once I've ordered just one more (famous last words??) I did resist the Chanel Peridot on BuyaPowa though :j

Ahhhhhh, bliss ............................... people who understand me.

Its my addiction, I always suggest America for our hols (again!!) as I love stocking up on OPI over there.

Im currently and gotta say in love with the colour Im wearing at the mo, Opi Fozzie Bear from the mppets collection, I keep glancing at my hands to admire! Didnt like the rainbow connection - complete let down.

My ultimate prize possession and wouldn't be without nail product is Seche Vite quick dry, my nails are dry within 30 seconds of applying it - its a miricle in a bottle.

I would love to be able to do the nail art . . . I dont have a steady enough hand! :o

Me too. I love this tutorial and it doesn't look too difficult.

I have 60ish varnishes. I am trying not to buy anymore until I have used a lot of them up, although I know I will be tempted if any limited edition collections come out. I store them in a cool dark place, but still find some go manky so I really don't want keep buying them and not using up ones that are near their best before date.
  • :jLove Nail varnish - Just got a mini Leighton Denny in my Feel Unique beauty box this month

I hate to say it but I actually have too many to count:o
I have a huge basket with my nail art supplies and then another 3 big boxes full - one just dedicated to OPI and another for the luxury brands - Deborah Lippman, Essie, Zora etc and my other box is for No.7, Revlon, Rimmel, Models Own etc (I just bought the entire range of Beetlejuice colours on Models Own special offer- ooops)

I did start a blog last year but it was too time consuming to do all the pictures, but I love reading them and getting ideas.

Currently wearing OPI Nicky Minaj Metcallic4Life, which is a lovely black with heaps of glitter, so I'll be getting the foil out at the weekend to get it all off.

I use opi Nail Envy as base and Seche Vite Dryfast as a top coat and then I re-do them every Sunday. Tried a Sally Hanson undercoat/treatment last year which was a huge mistake as it caused chip city!!!

I never do my toes though unless it's summer time - seems a waste to hide under socks and boots:rotfl:

When you say "manky" do you mean they seperate or go thick?

I have been collecting for years and rarely had a polish go off, treatments/top/base coats yes. I use Seche Restore to thin down any that seem a bit too thick, just a couple of drops, try, add couple more drops etc until consistency right. Shake well! I have in the past also used cheap and cheerful nail polish thinner from *bay, that seems to be OK too. Some polishes seem to seperate out more than others, but usually a few good shakes or a good roll of the bottle does the trick for me.

What are people's recommendations for getting something as close to the Rockstar look as possible without handing a salon the best part of my food budget for the month?

    Yes ridiculous price.

OK budget version - as used by me over New Year. Bit too "in your face" for work!

Paint nail with base coat or a clear nail varnish. Whilst still wet and sticky either sprinkle or brush on some cheap fine craft glitter ( plenty on eBay, I used Martha Stewart). You can be creative if you use a brush and go for stripes or shading etc.

Let it dry for a few minutes then top with a clear nail varnish and then your usual top coat. I used a UV top coat but I can't see why the ordinary stuff wouldn't work.

I had some newish OPI glitter polishes that have gone really thick and gloopy even though the lids are tightly on and they are stored properly. The Katy Perry glitter has already become really gloopy, but I have read blogs where other people are complaining about this problem.

What I have tended to find is that some of my polishes (esp. No7) get what looks like an oily deposit on top (about 1cm thick). It doesn't matter how much I shake them it doesn't fully mix up again.

Thank you! Not a problem for me, as my 'work' involves standing on stage and trying to look and sound cool
