For those that have been asked for references, am I right in thinking you're not supposed to use previous (or present) employers as referees?
That's what I've been told; Can anyone confirm this?
@Guest24 - Did you get any feedback scores for the interview yet?
Yeah I got them about a week after my interview.
And no it can't be an employer or family member. I just listed my neighbours0 -
These people must have known you for at least 3 years but not be related to you or an employer. They can be friends or family friends, they do not have to be professional people.0

Hey guys, I received this email today:
CSR/9/13 Customer Adviser
We are now beginning pre-employment checks to reduce delays in posting you while you are on the reserve list. In order to complete these checks I need more information from you.
Can you please give me the names, addressees, telephone numbers and if possible email addresses of two people who are willing to act as personal referees for you.

You may choose to use a tutor or lecturer as one of your references. If this is the case then I must have their email address as I am unlikely to be able to contact them via phone. Please also be aware that there may be a delay of several weeks for them to be able to respond so there may be a significant delay in any potential offer of employment.
Please email me this information at lesley.luke@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk quoting the above reference.
Kind Regards

Ok, thanks.
Hopefully I'll get the email asking for references, but in the meantime I'll have to find some new ones.
I find it odd they don't want a reference from a previous employer(s).0 -
It's personal references. My friend and I put each other when we both worked for the Civil Service.0

I wouldn't have thought so, You applied for the Lillyhall jobs didn't you Ace? Whilst the positions have been similar at the various sites, the recruitment process has been different. I wouldn't read too much into other peoples experiences at different sites to the one you applied for.
The fact is you are on the reserve list which means you still have a chance of being offered the job, it's infuriating not knowing either way but ultimately you will still be applying for other things and you mayget an offer out of the blue for the job so you aren't really losing anything.0 -
