I had my lightbulb moment back in 2007, I thought why am I taking so much insulin to have the foods that the NHS was telling me to eat on a regular basis. So I cut back and thus needed alot less insulin I had better blood sugars and wasn't having insulin in the quantities previously needed that was turning to fat. The rest is history and I think more and more healthcare professionals are getting the lightbulb moment too.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

If you wish to discuss low carb v low fat please use one of the weight loss or health threads on other boards, thank you.

I pointed out that Weetabix + nutrigrain bar + tomato soup + jacket potato + nutrigrain bar has potentially 30g of sugar and just the Weetabix has 25g carbs per 37g serving. No-one will lose weight on that.

So anti-low carbers pls go moan elsewhere or better still go read up as fat doesn't turn to fat, whereas carbs turn to sugar.

Unless your Edwardia then you can discuss it here it would seem. By the way the only one who is moaning on this thread now is you, sideshow matt has long gone.

The thread I posted on as a weight loss thread so open to all manner of diets. This thread is for low carbers to discuss bargains and if they want to discuss their stories that's great.

The Lidl leaflet from 15 March isn't online yet so I have to refer you to kc101's thread atm. Hopefully I can pick up a leaflet at the weekend.

From the photos I can see Three Fish Roast (yummy), lobster (very good for the price), Princes tuna flakes and some salmon so far.

Hi sparklyfairy, when I Googled low carb recipes, I found so many American websites that I felt I couldn't trust that I ordered cookbooks online from the library and then spent an afternoon photocopying recipes from them. Then I started buying cheap low carb cook books from charity shops.

500 Low Carb Recipes Dana Carpender
Low Carb Meals in Minutes Linda Gassenheimer
The Low Carb Bible Linda Gassenheimer
Low Carb Vegetarian Celia Brooks Brown
The Vegetarian Low Carb Diet Cookbook Rose Eliot
    Atkins The Complete Cookbook
The South Beach Diet Cookbook Dr Arthur Agatson

all of these available on www.amazon.co.uk

None of them are perfect but they all have some good recipes. The website I have used is www.about.com
  • Cheers for that. Yes there's loads of American recipes online, but I'm trying to stay away from buying books as we're moving back to the US in the next 18 months. I'll have a look at about.com.

I looked up UK supermarket recipe databases and they don't show low carb recipes. I'm wondering whether US /Canadian supermarkets would ?

ETA tried Walmart, Hannaford, Loblaws, Harris Teeter, Thriftway and nothing.
about.com does have recipes in the low carb section.

    Linda Gassenheimer's website www.dinnerinminutes.com
    Dana Carpender's blog www.holdthetoast.com
    South Beach Diet website www.southbeachdiet.com
    Atkins website www.atkins.com
    Rose Elliot's website www.roseelliot.com
    Celia Brooks Brown's website www.celiabrooksbrown.com

Not recipes but useful links to nutritional studies on low carb from Dr John Briffa www.drbriffa.com
