I have a question for folks in this thread.....

I have qualified under the Warm Front scheme for free cavity wall insulation plus a heating system repair. I am due to get cavity wall insulation on 11th Dec, The order sheet has a measurement of 167m(2), and said 'CAT ladder needed and 'has thermalite blocks in, but ok to do' in the special requirements box....

The question I have is, how much will this take out of the £2500 grant available, as I really need the heating repair (digital controls are broken and water tank has possible corrosion). I would favour the heating repair over the CWI, but it was stated 4-6 months for heating and 1-3 for CWI, which is at the near installation stage....

    Thanks..

how does that work then, do you only get the grant assistance of £2.5K and then you have to pay the rest?

  • yeh I think that's the case.
  • I just read the info again, it's up to £3.5k, so hopefully that should cover it!
  • I think you will find if you are in the working minority i.e paying taxes etc to supplement the dossers sitting on the contestants row at the window of Weatherspoons for 12 hours a day, you dont get a penny.

I wanted roof insulation and to change a 30 year old boiler, but unfortunately as I am not on the list of benefits, just a provider, I get diddly squat till I'm 60 and only then if the boiler doesnt work do I get a voucher for £300 off a £2500 boiler, whooopppeee cant wait to get old:rolleyes:

oh and btw, I have always worked and served in the armed forces, I'm a single parent who works part time, I've paid plenty of tax over the years, so it's nice to get something back, when I need it :)

    Hi Frames

Im one of the technical surveyors for Warmfront so can shed a bit of light on this.

A very broad rule of thumb (and it is broad as i dont know how much CWI has been advised) but generally for an average 3 bed semi, loft and CWI insulation will come to less than £500 so there will be a large chunk of the grant available to you for heating.

Is your heating working at all at the min?
    £2 Savers Club #156! :)
Looking for holiday ideas for 2016. Currently, Isle of Skye in March, Riga in May, Crete in June and Lake District in October. August cruise cancelled, but Baby due September 2016! :j
  • Thanks, it's a 4 bed detached house, average size, small bedroom above the garage etc. 167 m(2). No further loft insulation is required as they've said it is above the minimum required.

Luckily heating and hot water are 'stuck' on, would be awful if they were stuck off! I can still use thermostat for heat, but cant use any timers/controls etc, so nothing too serious. Tank has a warning light on, has for ages.

Hi lisalou, how much assistance would an elderly lady of 65 get for loft insulation for a detached house roof area about 55m2, she was recently widowed and does not claim benefits?.

Well said frames1_uk, not everyone that doesn't work is a "dosser" there are some people that are genuine cases who want to work but cannot for one reason or another. Just remember some people will have illnesses that are not visible to the eye! I hope for your sake Happychappy you never become ill or unemployed through no fault of your own and become a "dosser" yourself! I'm not talking here about people who do not want to work and have no legitimate reason for not working.

I also worked and paid taxes for many years but now can't work through no choice of my own. I'm not entitled to any grants but hey there are people worse off than me but if I want insulation fitted I am prepared to pay for it.
