Hi lisalou, how much assistance would an elderly lady of 65 get for loft insulation for a detached house roof area about 55m2, she was recently widowed and does not claim benefits?.

Hiya. Sorry for the late reply.

To qualify for warmfront, if you are over 60 then you need to be receiving one of the following:

    council tax benefit,
    housing benefit
    income support
    pension credit
    income based job seekers allowance
    attendance allowance
    disability living allowance

If shes not receiving any of these then you would not be eligible for free insulation through warm front but you could try your local council to see if they could help.

Eon are doing a special at the moment for £150. Have booked them in as I am about to make our loft into a bedroom so need to get it insulated first.

    Hi oliel

That's right; we are currently offering loft insulation for £150 if less than 60mm is needed. However, more than 60mm and the price goes up to £220.

Just a heads up; if you are an E.ON customer and have registered with our website there is the opportunity to join in the 10:10 campaign.

This is a climate change campaign aimed at helping people reduce their carbon footprint by 10 per cent during 2010.

People signed up to 10:10 and taking either loft or cavity wall insulation from us qualify for a free energy saving monitor. This is a limited offer which is valid until 7 December 2009.

Hope this is of interest. Let me know if you need any more details as always happy to help. :)

  • I live in Mansfield and me and hubby who both work full time and earn decent wage got a grant through our local council to do cavity wall insulation for £99. Do a google of your local district council and see what the deal is. My understanding is that there is a pot of money availble for this sort of thing but it is going quick.

Just been contacted about sorting out the house for insulation but will not be free - I will have to pay about £195 which should work out as bargain - They will be able to top- up the roof to 10 inches plus cavity wall - The energy company pays half toward the cost- Bring it on - WOW - My house was built in the mid- sixties with some insulation- Now awaiting the survey .

I used a company that my neighbour did, they got theirs done for nothing as they dont earn much. I got mine done and even though i work too with a canny job i still got the majority of it free with a grant. I'm over the moon man, the walls done, the loft done and pipes and everything. In and out in no time.
Company i used was a website called "iamaspammer.co.uk" and couldnt have been better

I live in Scotland and have now contacted two companies, first one in August and although I had two phone calls from a surveyor on separate occasions arranging appointments he didn't even bother to turn up for any of them or phone me to let me know he wasn't able to manage. I again contacted the company by phone and they assured me someone would phone me later that day or the next day, that was two weeks ago and still no phone call:mad: That company was arranged via Scottish Power. In the meantime after reading this thread around two weeks ago I contacted another company and received an email from them stating that someone would contact me regarding survey, still nothing. I thought by starting to make arrangements in August I would have had insulation installed by now. Is anyone else finding it difficult to have loft insulation surveys arranged?
  • do you have to own your own home? i rent from a housing assosiation when i spoke to them about it they wernt interested.
  • Yes, I have my own home, I really do not understand why they do not send a surveyor out:mad:
  • :jWhoopee, finally got a surveyor booked for tomorrow to give me quote for loft insulation, hopefully he will turn up unlike his colleague.

We had a survey and offer from the council to do our loft for around £300, I pay taxes etc so get the highest cost option. The other downside for me was we’d need to empty the loft first which would not be an easy job. So I’m thinking I could probably do it myself for less, buy the stuff from DIY shop, move stuff about in the loft, lay the insulation and then move the boxes of stuff back etc.

So my question is which is the best DIY shop to buy from? My research shows they all seem fairly similar, unless you catch a 10% off day.

Does anyone have any recommendations/experience to share?
    Regards

    JackRS
