My dogs (2 of them, the other is a Battersea dog) are where poodles came from originally! Poodles were refined and used by the royalty in France for hunting (duck dog), mine were left rustic and used as a generic farm dog, but with great water retrieving abilities! The guy Wally in Australia who was responsible for creating labradoodles regrets the day he ever did this! My breed is used successfully as a service dog, and also as a dog for the blind in 3 european countries. It does not moult unike the labradoodle, but it also licks its bits and brings in all sorts of debris on its coat. I see labradoodles being sold for ridiculous amounts and do wonder why people pay that much. My breed still has an open register, which means that other breeds can still be used, this happened last year. It is a very small numerically breed, and thankfully the Kennel Club has nothing to do with it as it is not yet recognised by them, the day it does may well be its ruination!
  • I do love the idea of calling a breed of dog that likes water a 'Puddle Hound', though. Gotta appreciate the German practicality in naming things.

Looby, do we get a clue as to the name of your dog's breed? Or pictures? Or do you want to keep it all secret in case we all decide we want one?
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
