Forward, backward, start and stop. There you go. £45k per year is yours.

    Woah, steady on.

How do you expect me to learn this if you put it into one line?

    Forward.....tick
    Backward....ok, give me time.

Can I try this with MPs?

    Promise, Under-achieve, Cover-up, Blame Others.

    Cool :D it works

i don't think this is anything to do with tube drivers. didn't they already agree £1,200 extra.

this is about all other underground staff isn't it?

the justification is that they will have to work a flexible shift pattern during the olympics.

firstly, they already have to work a flexible shift pattern, and secondly many large employers in london have been putting plans into place to encourage their employees to work more flexibly during the olympics, including telling us to come in much earlier or much later than normal (and of course still work a full day once we arrive). by this logic, i should be seeking a cash hand-out.
  • For once I agree with you, though nearer 22-24,000 would be a fair wage IMO.

but don't forget, a chav on benfits cann get up to 26k!!! shows what a joke the cap is.

should be £12k. £1k free money is MORE than enough.

Are they insisting you come in early or just asking.

Pointless carrying on - you don't listen anyway.

The drivers are expected to behave like professionals, drive their trains like professionals and are paid like professionals.

That's why they are well paid - it is a responsible job driving around thousands of people and the powers that be don't want any 'Tom, !!!!!! or Harry' doing it.

They want those with the right skillset and attitude and why the assessments have been designed for that job.

How many other professionals get themselves a pay rise by inflicting misery on the best part of 1m people? They don't they negotiate with their employer and if still not happy they try somewhere else for what they are after.

These wonderful skills you describe, if not part of a tube drivers union, who else would pay them that money? Answer - nobody. Because they ain't wort even half that.
  • they are disgraceful greedy scum. I am sure bribing the tube drivers et al is illegal under the Bribery Act 2010. someone should look into it.

to be fair, there is no general diktat as yet, although people who require direct and continuous supervision from a manager are likely to be told that they have to work different hours. they are also considering telling some of us we have to work from home for a certain number of days each during the period in question. this may sound like a bonus to some people but i (a) cannot work from home as i don't get out of bed and spend the day watching tv, thus i never choose to work from home and (b) physically cannot do about 98% of my job from home (which is why (a) happens) meaning that for every day i am forced to work from home, i have to do 8* more hours work in the office.

    * = obviously the real amount of work i do in the office every day is commensurate with the rest of the population, so once you've deduced MSE, facebook, water cooler chats, and 'entitlement cigarette breaks' (insert unhinged rant about how i don't smoke but why should i work whilst others are smoking outside) that leaves about 6 minutes of extra work.
