Saw saving Mr Banks yesterday, the Cinema was full of kids who were making such a racket it spoiled the movie. I would certainly agree its not for young children, it was a really good movie though.

Not strictly true - I know I've posted some codes where PORT SOLENT ODEON has been amongst the locations

Must have been ages ago, I've never seen any in the whole time I've been getting the freebies off here. Bit gutted if I have missed any :p
  • Has anybody not seen Saving Mr Banks at a preview, there will be nobody left to actually pay to see it ;) - never seen so many codes for a preview flying around

How far do you go back ...
... and can you access free ones from SKY and/or VIRGIN MEDIA ?

PORT SOLENT appeared most recently (Mar 2013 ?) when the thread covered the offer of Family Tickets with 4 tokens from The Sun.
In January there was WRECK IT RALPH courtesy of Disney and MONSTERS INC.(3D) from SKY
Last December VIRGIN offered THE IMPOSSIBLE, another from Disney was "TINKERBELL AND THE SECRET OF THE WINGS", and LIFE OF PI was available thorough SFF.
In September 2012 SKY offered SINISTER and VIRGIN offered HOPE SPRINGS
BRAVE was shown in August, tickets from both Disney and SKY

2011 & 2010 were both a little lean with few screenings, but 2009 had quite a significant number ...

    ... and 2008 & 2007 were hardly bereft

  • Also saw Saving Mr Banks today and loved it Cried too.

Thought all the actors/actresses were wonderful.

Agree with what others have said that I do not think children would enjoy it.

    Hope it wins an Oscar.

totally agree, we went yesterday morning

was surprised the cinema was only about 70% full people must get tickets and not bother going:mad:

I went to Saving Mister Banks last night (on my own, as others couldn't make it, I reserved one ticket) with low expectations really. I am not a Disney fan and could absolutely relate with Ms Travers' doubts about Disney turning her beloved book into Technicolour, schmaltzy fluff.

Some outstanding performances in this (especially from Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks, who I love anyway) and Colin Farrell looks pretty good for a man who allegedly lives (or lived) quite a rock 'n' roll lifestyle! I thought it was him but assumed the actor was too young!

As for the greetin' (Glaswegian for "crying"!)..I heard one audience member behind me audibly sob at the sad part. I won't spoil it by explaining. The scene was sad, but not that sad.

It makes me want to find out what really happened between Travers and Disney. I would assume Hollywood glosses over some finer details, as they tend to with movie adaptations.

Had to laugh at Disney's insistence that !!!!!! Van Dyke was one of the "greats". His English accent in the Mary Poppins movie is widely accepted (I'm pretty sure, even by himself) as one of the worst in movie history. It makes my toes curl!!

Ms Travers seemed a very cantankerous and stubborn lady, yet I couldn't dislike her. Maybe because I could relate to her wanting to protect the honest portrayal of her "character", her "baby" (Mary Poppins, as depicted in P.L. Travers' stories).

In short, I wasn't expecting to enjoy this movie, but I did! :)

PS: One thing though, reviewers on IMDB.com are saying Tom Hanks' Southern accent as Walt Disney is not accurate at all. Judge for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Uz__bJTlOjk#t=52

I can't really tell if you're being rude or not, so am not keen on getting drawn into a debate about it. I can't access Virgin, and refuse to buy the Sun (even for free cinema tickets).
Clearly I need to be more observant...

Personally I think Tom did a good job on the voice after listening to that clip:)

I loved the film but I also think PL Travers was shown as a nice woman and I'm not entirely sure about that after reading around.

No, Quoia was not being rude, more giving you information to help you IMHO:)

Not sure what your objection is to buying a newspaper at 40p/50p/60p (depending what day it is) and discarding it without reading it (If you feel that strongly) so that you can get tickets, seems a shame if it's for a film that you would like to see:)
