This place http://www.scandinavianknittingdesign.com/index.html has loads of free patterns, and they sell very reasonably priced yarns too. P&P is £2.50 for 6 balls of yarn, and the last time I shopped with them was yesterday and the yarn arrived today! You can even pay by PayPal!0

This month's Prima has a free knitting pattern by Debbie Bliss to send off for. I'll get the address for you tonight0

I love 'knitty.com' too! If you do get round to checking your library you could ask if they have any of the 'Stitch and !!!!!' Books in stock ('Stitch and !!!!! Nation' and 'Stitch and !!!!! - the knitters handbook'). They are american but are widely available here and have some cool and quite young knitting patterns in. They also do a crocheting book ('The Happy Hooker':rotfl: )
I love them. They also have a website which they put the odd free pattern on....Stitchn!!!!!.co.uk.
Hope that helps!
Tess
I've just noticed the website wouldn't let me put in the second word....It sounds like stitch and begins with B!Tess x

My friend is a keen knitter - her craft site http://www.ohmystars.net/craft has some links I think.
Her site was features in the guardian craft guide a few weeks back!
http://katieknits.blogspot.com/ is her knitting site though.. try there.0 -
Have you tried your local charity shops? They usually have ring binders full of them (you might have to ask as they are often 'hidden' away!!).
The (charity) shop where my mum works recently sold off a whole load of donated 'Simply Knitting' magazines (wish she'd told me they had them ), so it might be worth looking in the magazines too.
Plus, there's always eBay... (have to whisper that as OH complains he's being taken over by my knitting stash...)
Hope this helps

Yes, I actually shelled out on the Stitch and - knitting book, it has hats and sweaters and all sorts! However, I am struggling with the Americanisms! Oh Well... Will try to check out the library though, my local has an online catalogue which might be of use.
Cheers much Everyone who's posted so far, I've vastly extended my knitting links and may even have found some patterns I may try.Tsuki0 -
Actually you have inspired me now! I however struggle a lot with my wrists especially as garments get larger and heavier to work with...
I've spent this morning trying to work out how I could get round this...
And my CUNNING plan (which I hasten to add for all you black adder fans - does NOT contain a turnip!) is to make a bed spread!
Yes I can see you are all trying to suss out how a bedspread will weigh less then say a jumper and that Tine must have totally lost what remaining marbles she has... Weeeeeeeeeell.... I was thinking of knitting 10/10cm squares or even 15 x 15 cm squares in best patchwork fashion and then sewing them all together laterThat means I'll never be trying to lift anything for long periods of time that is bigger than about 15cm x 15cm and I should be able to handle that!
Now... it's been YEARS since I last knitted... so all you experienced people out there... what size needles do you think would be suited and what size wool/yarn/cotton? Infact has anyone done this and what would you suggest?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

I love ohmystars. I used the tee-shirt customising tutorials as inspiration to make a green top for my housemate to go to a traffic light party in out of a tee-shirt I got from Pound Empire. I didn't follow any of them exactly but I used bits from different tutorials and adapted them to get a sexy looking top with a good fit without having to get the sewing machine out. That Guardian craft guide was pretty ropey (though including ohmystars.net was obviously one of its good points though it missed out a few influential craft sites). I saw it round my boyfriends house and got all excited and then spent all morning moaning to him about how disappointing it was. It was all woodwork without joints and sewing without shaping and strongly implying that hand-crafted stuff is supposed to look a bit crappy. I was severely under-impressed.0

I have problems holding knitting needles too but got frustrated not being able to knit any more. I have started a knitted blanket on size 8 needles (?mm) and use double knitting yarn from Age Concern shop. I have knitted 40 stitch , garter stitch squares. It makes huge 10 inch/24cm squares which are still light enough for me to knit because it is man made fibre, not wool. Still have loads to do but I do a little as and when I am able, sometimes just 2 or 3 rows. My blanket is supposed to be for charity but they will have a long wait!business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527
