I really like the patterns on knitty but the one you've got there is not right for the wool you've got because it uses 6.5mm needles. I'm making this one at the moment with some thick, slubby, multi-coloured acrylic (I can't afford nice yarn :( ) I found a couple more that use large needle sizes but they are trickier to knit: blackberry and anticipation
There is this jumper from Drops
You could try doing a search of the free patterns on the LionBrand website for knit items using Thick and Quick. You have to register to see the free patterns but it is pretty painless and the don't spam you. Also if you ask the same question on www.crafster.org you will probably have more luck since there are loads of very helpful knitters with various different levels of experience and knowledge. (Not that the people on here aren't helpful but crafster has a lot more knitters.) Someone's bound to be knitting or have knit just the pattern you are looking for.

try having a look at this web site http://www.scandinavianknittingdesign.com/index.html. I think needle sizes are european, and this place does downloadable patterns. Some of them are a bit too funky for me, I usually just buy the yarn from them.

Does anyone know where I can get free knitting patterns on-line, specifically for things like long knitted cardigans? I can find patterns for kids stuff, scarves, etc but not for cardigans - I'm looking for something quite modern, and extremely easy! I'm loathe to spend a fortune in the shops on something that I (with any luck!) can knit myself! many thanks.

try https://www.lionbrand.com or https://www.knittingpatterncentral.com , I think the addresses are correct, I've lost all my favourites.
  • I would love to know also, anything quite modern and easy, that isn't for children or dolls clothes.
Then again I am looking for a knitted tea cosy pattern as I cannot crochet and Im fed up that my 2nd brew always goes cold. Any web addresses please.

    Thanks alot
  • Have you looked at this site

If you go to the archives as well you will just need to trawl through it and see if there is anything there you like.

I have a computer crash at the moment but hope to pick it up tomorrow - I have quite a few links in my Favourites that have free knitting patterns.
As soon as I get it back I'll post you some more links.

    Happy knitting
  • i have to agree with Mariel https://www.knittingpatterncentral.com is one of the best ones around, it has hundreds of links to free patterns and for all you crocheters out there https://www.crochetpatterncentral.com also has hundreds of links to free patterns

Just in case you didn't know alyth - the US standard yarn is worsted, roughly equivalent to aran weight. You can happily sub DK for worsted when crocheting but not knitting as I unfortunately discovered.

thanks for that Mariel, I've heard of worsted but never knew what it was! I've been buying some knitting magazine for a while, but quite frankly I can knit cushions and that's it and thought I would try to be a bit more adventurous!
