I think the free food may well depend on the manager or who ever in charge on that day or just how much there is of a particular item.

Ive been in between 4pm and 6 and seen loaves of bread on the side for free.

you probably meant by the till??

I've been constantly shopping at my Lidl for the last 2 years and never ever seen anything for free there.

"Schogetten" 100g choc bars with various fillings - the praline noisette is nice, the coconut cream is gorgeous.
  • Hi,

I usually shop after work at about 5.45-6pm.

I have seen discounted food items around the store, but anything free is located after you go through the checkout on the shelf (usually by the window where everyone packs their purchases into bags).

There aren't always boxes of free food there, but when there are the sales assistant on the checkout tells people as they go through to see if there's anything in the boxes they want to take for free, as it will only get chucked away.

I don't know if this is just at my local store or not, and I'm pretty sure there's not been free food available everytime I've been to Lidl's, just every now and then (I only shop once a week), I guess it depends on what food and how much they have going out of date that day.

Hopefully though this might be useful, and if you shop towards the end of the day you might get lucky with some freebies too :)
  • Thanks for this thread, I might have to give Lidl a try (if I can get into the carpark at my local that is!), always queing out and blocking the road!

I'm now becoming more and more of a fan of Lidl and Aldi's shopping, more so Lidl but as i have both stores in Aylesbury on either side of the road i can literally do my pre planned shopping in both.

I go early on a Saturday morning, like 0800AM before the Saturday shoppers which i just cannot stand :o
