First time shopping at L!dl
Options
Hiya, tomorrow I am planning to go to our nearest l!dl (16 miles away) instead of MrM (9 miles) and i was wondering whether there is anything I should definitely look out for/avoid? I am quite excited as everyone seems to say how cheap it is but knowing me, I'll end up spending a fortune
and I don't want to do that.
Thanks!

Have you had a look at their website to check the latest offers which started today?
I usually get milk, butter, cheeses, cold meats, eggs, pate and special offers on that week as well as fruit and veg and get a huge trolley full for the price of three short trips to the supermarket for odds and ends."This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
Preemie hats - 2.0 -
The frozen veg & chips are better in my opinion than the big brands, things to avoid are washing products & cat food, other than that everythings ok.You can often get good beer, wine & spirits,Gaffenwalder Pils lager is excellent & in the summer, they'll have offers on Magners ect.
Frozen pizza's are better value than Tesco's ect.
My local lidls have instore bakery now that do coisants ect as well.0 -
I usually buy tinned peeled tomatoes and kidney beans in bulk. Fresh fruit, veg, milk, bread, chicken, etc I find are all good buys. I take my time choosing fruit and veg to ensure they aren't bashed.0

I'd say keep an open mind, as Lidl isn't quite the same as the major supermarkets, in that they don't always stock everything - tends to depend on what offers they're pushing. A lot of their own-brand products are excellent (their own-brand stuff rarely has 'Lidl' on it!). As elona says, their cheeses and greengrocery are very good, as is their wine selection. Jams (in the square jars) are brilliant and full of fruit; their fruit juices are good, if you like longlife juice; crisps and snacks also good value. The common over-the-counter meds are very cheap, and so is their range of toiletries - many of them are well-known brands at very low prices. One word of warning - if you like fairly decent tea and coffee, avoid the very cheap ones, as they're tasteless.0

The chorizo sausages, continental hams, and cheeses are all brilliant too. Second the comment about tea, and TBH I don't rate the booze. It always gives me a thumping headache.

Funnily enough,me too!! Their Queen Margot whisky has given me some of the worst hangovers I've ever had! The Gin isn't bad tho & the Woodgate cider is excellent, tastes like Strongbow to me!
They do a cheese spread in tubs like Philladelphia but much better.0 -
Look next to the milk and they do a lovely bottle of fresh juice with bits NOT from concentrate. I think its £1.29 its better than tropicana etc. Milk is usually 99p for just 4 pinta ish size.
I use the washing powder with no problems its lasts ages and its such a big box. I have kids and it seems to get everything clean and fresh. Tend to stick to brand softener though i do like my lenor.
Cleaning products are very cheap sometimes cheaper than 99p store.
Potatoes are brilliant and usually about half the price of sainsburys. We love the little new potatoes or salad ones cut in half leave skins on and roast FAB. Sweet potato is lovely. Huge fresh garlic in baskets are a big favourite of ours i am not sure how much but its about 6 bulbs for £1.29-£1.49. Its brilliant for making garlic bread.
Chickens are usually lovely and cheapest around. They do free range ones for about a fiver if you like those.
free range eggs are ummmm 85P for 6 i think they are great.
Ladies razors are very good and worth the price.
Bunch of flowers usually under £2 and they last quite well.
They do their own brand very like m & m peanuts but theirs are bigger and crunchier husband and i are addicted!!!!! In amongst the chocolate bars bottom shelf in our one. £1.29 i think. Its a good sized bag.0 -
Their vanilla ice cream is wonderful, proper vanilla seeds & flavour. Usually around £3.50 for a big red tub.
Pizzas are good too. Locally free range eggs are 85p for 6. Flour is good value too (cheaper than Sainsburys Basics).
Nice lemonade & their version of Iron Brew.
I like the liquid "Formil" washing stuff (Bio & Colour) and the dishwasher tablets are as good as any.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0 -
I like their version of "Snickers" (Mr Choc, Peanut Choco) very nice and only work out at about 17p each!! ( can't remember if they are packs of 6 or 8) I have a half a one every day with a cup of tea, Mmmmmm yummy!0

Their choc chip biscuits are 49p (in a red pack) and taste just as good as Maryland.
Their Jams are lovely, especially the morello cherry one.
8 (i think) waffles (the sweet breakfast ones) for 58p, and are lovely!
Peanut butter is cheaper and yummy!
Eggs (6) were 69p last time i was there, and were fine.
Formil washing powder, approx 36 for a huge box.
BUT- avoid their alcohol, its hangover hell!0
