They often have an offer on beer on a Saturday where, for example, instead of paying 79p for a 500ml tin of Gaffenwalder pils, you pay 50p a tin.The beer tends to go quickly when the's an offer on but if you can't see it,ask as they usually have more out the side.

Right now they have some good "XXL" offers on. 1kg chicken breast for £5.99, 750g spaghetti 55p. Their spaghetti is MUCH nicer than cheaper own brand stuff which I find to be really gluey.
Vegetables, chocolate, flour, eggs, yogurt(the 1kg tubs of greek yogurt are gorgeous), cheese(very cheap), tins of veg, cheap gammon joints. Erm, pretty much everything is brilliant.
Living cheap in central London :rotfl:
  • Make a list and get everything you can at L!dl but you might be swinging by your other supermarket to get the things that L!dl don't carry.

Don't expect to see all of the same brands as you're used to.

Invest is all the things that Germans enjoy and are good at: cold meats, cheeses, chocolate, biscuits and cakes. Another vote for the jams/preserves and I disagree with Spike, their Formil brand laundry detergent is great. As is the Doussy fabric conditioner. Toiletries and cleaning-products all top-notch even if they're not familiar.

If your family enjoys pizza see if they have the three frozen marguerita ones for £2.50. Add you own olives or whatever other toppings you like. Cheap and good.

Which reminds me, their green olives in a one kilo-ish jar are very good and chap at about £1.40 or so. Sun-died tomatoes, tinned tomatoes and passata.

You'll find the fresh fruit and veg very keenly priced.

If you know what's good for you you'll pick up one of those buckets of Greek-style yoghurt. Creamy, rich and so very delicious. Rather fattening, too but it's worth it.

It's more the continental style but only 50p ish a bar....they also sell excellent Perogies & if your family like donna kebab;s,they do a box of kebab meat for around £1.50...Large tortilla wraps are about 80p...
  • Oooh where do I start - my life was nearly complete a year ago when a Lidl opened up 10 miles away and now there is a new one on my way to work - heaven!

    I buy:

    Jams
    Tinned tomatoes
Tinned kidney beans (have bought a tin of salad beans as well but not tried them - does anyone use them, I'm not quite sure what to do with them?!)
Chocolate - they do a high cocoa plain chocolate
MisterChoco bars - they do a variety of types and OH likes all of them, the bags of mini bars are good value
Plain Chocolate digestive biscuits - yum!
Bread is often reduced by 30% - worth looking for the orange stickers around the store generally
I don't mind the instant coffee and I'm a bit of a coffee freak - MiL won't buy anything other than the Lidl coffee
    Tea bags
Aerosol cans of cream - useful to keep as standby cream
Parma (type) ham (mmmm have one in the fridge which I might open next weekend)
    Cheeses
    Smoked salmon
    Graftenwalder lager
Cider - the big 2 litre bottles (we're classy in our house!)
Mum in law buys the Lidl Baileys "look a like" and loves it
Chilled pasties and pies - our store often has them reduced by 30% so I stock up for the freezer
    Chicken
Pork belly slices (when they have them)
    Washing up liquid (w5)
Spray surface cleaner - I buy it now and again as the bottles unscrew easily and can be refilled with stardrops!
Frozen oven chips, croquette potatoes etc.

Oh yes - the middle aisle will have non food "stuff" in it that changes on a weekly basis, some of that is very good value - we bought some very nice outdoor chair cushions and table clothes last year. You need to buy things when you see them though, they won't necessarily have the same things in a week.

They do food special offers as well, often on a theme so a chinese theme, french theme or whatever.

I've rarely had anything that isn't good - have a good time!

Don't know about the hangovers, as we only ever buy from their range of Italian wine. Since they're grape varieties we know, no problem.

Forgot about the Bellarom choc, spike. It is indeed delicious, and so much better than any sickly Cadbury. Their ice creams are great, too, and we especially like their mini choc covered ice cream lollies. :D A treat without overdoing the bad for you stuff!

Carrots are on offer atm, 39p/kg - time to make spicy carrot soup!
Their vanilla ice cream is wonderful, proper vanilla seeds & flavour. Usually around £3.50 for a big red tub.
Bear in mind that Sainsburys are selling Carte D'Or for £1.79 until mid-Feb.
